Having worked for HP in the past, they innovate very little. Wouldn't buy anything HP...

No, it cannot. Onboard = soldered ram.
IDK why assemblers such as HP do that. There should be a law that prevents that.

In this case the ram is part of the CPU. That decision was made by Intel. You get more speed and I suspect the overall cost for the manufacturer is less but you are stuck with whatever comes with that CPU. The 258 variant is what you want for 32GB.
While I also think there should be laws for electronics to be serviceable by buyers, I am not holding my breath for anything to happen... Don't get me started on 3.5mm jacks and Micro SD support in phones. .

This is a terrible deal. Non-upgradanle memory, 17.6in without an dedicated GOU (I think) and the 1080p screen is the cherry on top of a terrible deal.

The newest iPhone doesn't have a sim card option in the US but does in other markets. So they just put a plastic filler piece inside the phone instead of a sim insert. So instead of adding ad card storage they just added a literal hunk of plastic.

FFS, it's only $600. Not some 1k+ gaming laptop. 1080p and integrated GPU is fine for what it is. I don't like the memory being soldered in place, but it's not a deal breaker for most people that never open a laptop once they buy it... unless something goes wrong. This doesn't make for a great BF deal, but it's not bad.
