I've had one of these for years and have always really liked it. But unless you really want to use the gaming features, I would just get the ONN model that was here on FP a while ago. It was about $50 and I am basically just as satisfied with it. The Nvidia does have a spectacular remote but the ONN one is pretty good too.

This is the 2019 Pro version, so it's 6 years old and still the king of streaming boxes.

Can't wait for Nvidia to announce a new streaming box early next year. 🤣
Absolutely no reason

Until 8K movies are released , maybe 3 years from now

Apple TV doesn't allow sideloading. So there's that....
What do you sideload? Wondering if it's something that I'd even use and on the fence about this. Otherwise I do have experience with an appleTV and it seems like enough for my use case (until i ...finally set up a home media server)

YouTube with HDR support would be nice.

what are you even talking about?? I use mine daily, still as responsive and trouble free as the day I bought it years ago. IT IS THE BEST STREAMING BOX available.
You've gotta be joking. Trying to navigate, type or anything is laggy. The apps tab doesn't even load on one of mine. Both are unresponsive. It reminds me of using Android phones back around 2011-12.

They used to be good, but not anymore.

Just wait for the new Apple TV 4K due out soon or the next few months. Coming from an anti-Apple person.

Mine doesn't lag. Maybe time to do a reset and see

I have 3, no lag and I Literally use them daily without any issue. Stream Plex, f1, Apple TV app and YouTube. Sounds like a you issue since most of us don't have those issues.

Yea on the one with the app tab I'd agree, but the other 2 are also laggy. It's a shame. I bought 2 for my parents and one for me to help them navigate it and it's bad now on all of em.

Lots of hitching opening the app store, using search bars, opening apps. Swapping between apps. Maybe you're just use to the hitching and don't notice it.

Again, it is a issue with you or your device. I dont have any of those issues and the majority of people who responded to you or even if you spent 10 mins on Reddit, the Shield Pro is still the best solution. Accusing one of "not noticing it" when I clearly expressed mine does not is just a ego thing and you might need to fix that too. Have the day you deserve and enjoy the ignore from me.

I have 3 it's not a fluke. It lags just switching the tabs across the top. The shop doesn't hitch the whole UI when you tab over it? Keyboard doesn't take a second or few to pop up when you try to search sometimes? Settings menu doesn't take a few seconds to open and poplulate? It doesn't ever hitch when scrolling through lists or thumbnails? I really doubt it. It may generally be "snappy" but it's covered with lots of hitching and random lag everywhere in the UI. Just on the home screen with no apps open it drops frames and lags on all of them. I need to see a video.

Other people with lag:

  5. https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidiash...pro_laggy/
  6. https://www.reddit.com/r/ShieldAn...und_it_to/

Upgraded firmwares. Reset. Still laggy UI that hitches randomly.

I would get a newer version if they offered it, so I'll get the OnnTV Pro instead for sideloading apps.

I have two Shield Pros (2019) and three "regular" (tube-shaped) Shields. The only time they lag is right after a reboot. It does take a few seconds for the system to load all of the background tasks, but once that is complete it runs just as smoothly as the day I took it out of the box. FWIW, I also reduced all animations to 0.5x
