So, ignore manufacturer's recommendation and abide by your recommendations? SMH.

If you want cheap and good you should go with Walmarts Super Tech which goes for about $18 year round. Project Farm likes it as well...

Ex: the 2GR-FE in the states use 0-20w but other countries use 5-30w. It's mainly to meet epa requirements.

General Motors, is that you?

I like to see if manufacturer recommends 5w30 for my model car in another country. If so, I go w/ 5w30... also they say as your car ages to go w 5w30 as well..
Someone gets it

My original post called out super tech and Kirkland is slightly cheaper but I think this is objectively better oil.

Was also going to request people not spread FUD about the weight, do whatever helps you sleep at night because the reality is, it probably matters far less than we think and is very academic to obsess over oil weights which differ across manufacturers and blends.

Glad so many people found this useful.

I find it hilarious that general motors "fix" for their exploding 6.2L engines was to switch to 0w-40 oil and replace the oil fill cap with one that said 0w-40 instead of 0w-20.

Government regulations on emissions and fuel milage are costing us a lot of money on less reliable cars. I like getting 32 miles per gallon in my new car, but I'm not looking forward to having to pay to have carbon removed from the intake valves.

Super tech just as good, same price, and I don't need to stock a 2 year lifetime supply.

Could it be that the cars manufactured in other countries have different specs? I have seen cases in other countries where there are no strict regulations, manufacturers cut corners. So, comparing with other countries does not appeal to me.

This is great but I use Penzoil Ultra Platinum and change often because I have a turbo. Turbos tend to have oil dilution issues, so even if theres technically 'life' in the additive packet until 5,000+ miles, the base oil may be compromised.

Yes, if you have a more performance orientated car its a good idea. Frex, Manufacturers Recommendations are often 5w30 everywhere else in the world because that's what the manufacturer designed the engine around, but 0w20 in the USA because our CAFE standards are so strict they will sacrifice engine life for the consumer to eke out 1 more mpg. You will also see identical drive trains in performance or off roading vehicles call for heavier oil, because their smaller sales volume and harsher use case mean manufacturers dont need to get every scrap of MPG like they do for their bread and butter fleet sales.

Likewise our 'low rolling resistance tires' which by definition if they are low resistance dont grip as well. But they get 1 more MPG so USA manufactures use them, primarily in efficiency orientated cars but also to meet our strict CAFE standards.

An intelligent car owner would do his research and immediately switch to the best oil for his engine and tires that are better for his environment than what the accounting and marketing people insisted upon.

I would agree with you except with this deal the Pennzoil comes out to basically the same price as ST and it's better oil. So I'm going to jump on this deal.

Super Tech is fine and usually what I go with due to the lower price, but Pennzoil is better and the same price with this deal.

it is 100% true that if you want to protect your engine long term, use 5w 30 instead of 0w 20. manufactures only want 0w 20 to improve gas mileage and they know it sacrifices long term protection. i have seen this in many studies. also never do the 10k mile oil changes that the manufacturer a recommends, big mistake. oh, and the lifetime transmission fluid is also bs. dont think for a second that manufactures have your back, claiming better mpg, 10k oil changes and never change tranny fluid sells more cars, thats all they care about.
