This Target Circle gift card promo is a straightforward 10 percent off Target gift cards, with the best value coming from stacking it with payment rewards or using it for bigger planned purchases. It works online and can load into a Target wallet, and the cards can be handy for groceries, Target Optical, CVS inside Target, or a future console like the Switch 2. The main catches are that discounts do not stack with the RedCard on the gift card purchase, Target gift cards cannot buy other gift cards, and the offer was glitchy at launch for some carts. A solid way to prepay for Target spending if you have a clear use for it.

  • Chase Freedom users who can route the gift-card purchase through PayPal for extra cashback because commenters said you can use the PayPal December bonus (with Chase Freedom) to make the deal sweeter and reported getting 5% back.

  • people who already shop Target regularly and can stack other discounts because commenters said it's a good deal if you shop Target regularly and can combine it with other offers.

  • gift-givers buying Target gift cards annually for teachers/coaches because commenters said they only get this every year to give out to teachers and coaches for Christmas.

  • buyers planning a specific big-ticket Target purchase (like a console or TV) because commenters said the 10% discount only really makes sense for specific big-ticket items such as a console/TV.

  • Nintendo Switch 2 shoppers who want to save by using gift cards since the console isn't discounted elsewhere because commenters said they're using the gift cards to save up to $50 on a Switch 2.

  • people who prefer buying online and then using Drive Up/delivery because one commenter said they don't like shopping in store anymore due to long lines and would only buy if they can have it delivered.

  • Target Circle members who want to buy e-gift cards from home and auto-load to their Target wallet because commenters said you can buy them at home and auto-load them to your Target wallet so you don't have to worry about misplacing the email.

  • people using Target gift cards at Target CVS for prescriptions because commenters said Target gift cards work at CVS inside Target and effectively give ~10% off prescription drugs before FSA reimbursement.

  • buyers who want to use Target gift cards for Target Optical glasses because commenters said they use Target gift cards at Target Optical and that the 10% off makes it even better since Optical prices are already good.

  • people who want to use Target gift cards to buy other gift cards because commenters said you cannot use a Target gift card to buy another gift card.

  • RedCard holders who were hoping to get the extra 5% on top of the gift-card promo because commenters said the RedCard extra 5% discount doesn't apply to Target gift card purchases, so the benefit is only the straight 10%.

  • people who only shop Target for everyday items when Target's prices aren't competitive because commenters said Target's clothes/offerings have gotten worse and that the 10% isn't enough unless you're buying a specific big-ticket item.

  • shoppers who are relying on stacking multiple discounts beyond what's allowed because commenters said discounts cannot be stacked and also cautioned that the deal may not stack the way some expect.

  • people who need the deal to appear in their wallet immediately because commenters said it wasn't visible/available for them at certain times (e.g., not there at 1:40am EST or not showing in their wallet).

  • buyers trying to use PayPal in-store for the gift-card purchase because commenters reported PayPal in-store failing (cashier handheld rejected the QR code as an invalid payment code).

  • people planning to mail physical gift cards as Christmas gifts at the last minute because commenters said gift cards ship slower than regular orders and suggested buying in-store to avoid late delivery.

  • people who don't want to tie up money in Target gift cards for future use because commenters said they don't see value in tying up money with Target just to save an extra 5% in the future.

How much do you pocket after taxes? Gift card money is liquid and instantly usable when you want to make a purchase. Investment capital is a long-term strategy that is built on compounding interest. Stop comparing two different models. I can't get $50 off at Target from the S&P 500.
Why not both? or you are leaving money on the table. For instance, I have my kid in a Fidelity Youth account with the settlement fund of SPAXX. She has a debit card attached to it, and as she uses her debit card it makes trades to cash. It was earning 4% recently. That's not 10% but it compounds. Shes investing in some other funds in there too including S&P, but uses SPAXX as her checking account. All her Kohls checks from work get deposited into that core investment. Say no to traditional bank accounts.

FYI target gift cards work for CVS inside Target. As in, it's effectively 10% off your prescription drugs before even factoring FSA reimbursement.
Thanks for this. I was on the fence about this deal but will go ahead with it now.

The lesson is never spend full dollars at Target. I looked at my purchase history and put $366.66 on the card. Should cover me for the next year.

Is it possible to pay with PayPal in store?
I just tried PayPal in store and it did not work. I generated a QR code in the PayPal app with Chase card as the preferred payment method, cashier scanned the code with their handheld but the system kept saying not a valid payment code.

No, but you need Chase Freedom credit card and add the quarterly 5% bonus to the credit card account- which is PayPal, Department Stores, Chase travel, and Old Navy: https://media.chase.com/news/chas...categories

I'm only seeing Christmasy designs on the gift cards. Anyone see generic designs so I can buy gift cards for the teacher thank yous/ summer birthdays?
try another target, they do provide some basic design.

Are there any instructions? I add $500 to the cart, but it shows the final price as $500, instead of $450

PayPal debit card gives 5% cash back at Target if you select grocery as your cash back category. Also works at Walmart and Sam's Club.
Paypal debit card 5% cashback also works at Costco if you choose "grocery" category. It also works at Meijer. I have bought 3rd party GC at Meijer and paid with PayPal debit card to receive 5% cashback on the third party GC purchase.

We buy a ton of food from target. Price is same or sometimes cheaper than Walmart. Every food item we buy from Target is something not available in bulk at Costco or Sams.
Do you think they will have annual 50% off frozen pizza Sale this year at Target? As I recall, it happened in December.

Not really worthwhile for Red Card holders. The additional 5% discount doesn't apply to Target gift cards purchase (though it does apply to other brands' gift cards). That means the actual benefit for Red Card owners is only 5%. Personally, I don't see value in tying up money with Target just to save an extra 5% in the future.
It's worth it if you buy an e-gift card online and pay with a Chase Freedom card for the 5% back. So 15% off in total.

As for tying up money, it depends on the person, but I got the $10 off $40 food this week which my kids are using to buy candy for their friends as Christmas gifts, socks are 40% off today and one kids wants a vinyl for a birthday gift. lol, already spent $100 of the $500.

Why am I not seeing 5% off when using the Target Circle Card on top of the 10% off?
