Not really worthwhile for Red Card holders. The additional 5% discount doesn't apply to Target gift cards purchase (though it does apply to other brands' gift cards). That means the actual benefit for Red Card owners is only 5%. Personally, I don't see value in tying up money with Target just to save an extra 5% in the future.
Assuming that Target does allow payment by PayPal in stores, you would just need to show the cashier the QR code from the PayPal app (make sure you have selected your Chase card in the app).
Yep, that's my plan after finding similar information via google search. Looks like Target does accept PayPal in-store as long as I can get the QR code out of it with Chase as my preferred payment method.

It would be worth it only if you combine with some credit card offers, like spending xxx to get xxx.

It's really only a 5% discount. Once you use a gift card at Target, you lose your 5% by not using the Target debit card.
I figured since Chase has the 5% Paypal, that I could make it 10%.
I had Bounty paper towels in my cart for 77.22 + Target 15.00 discount for home essentials and then I get a P&G 15.00 rebate so I purchased 77.22 in gift card. This save me a few extra bucks of 7.72 on the order.
I'm only seeing Christmasy designs on the gift cards. Anyone see generic designs so I can buy gift cards for the teacher thank yous/ summer birthdays?
Appears only Christmasy is available. Side note: If a digital card is ordered the design is Christmasy in the e-mail but after added to account it displays as a generic design and there's an option to customize it to a few non-Christmasy options.
I still have $400 from last year's deal. I just purchased 5x $100 physical cards to give as gifts to nieces/nephews. Hopefully, this move by Target stimulates more buying from consumers. I'm more concerned about my investments with Target 😄
