are these with the rounded corners because you could drop the old version on its corner and they would pop open>?

I have one of these. I keep it in my gun safe. Which is also fireproof. I figure between the two layers it should protect my documents in the event of a fire. It's kind if heavy and small space vs the overall size. But it's the cheapest fireproof box I've found. I would never trust it outside of a safe, as it's easy to walk away with and not overly tough from a lock design standpoint.

Not really worried about theft. I just need something fireproof to keep passports, social security cards, birth certificates and car titles in. This looks like it would work unless someone has a better suggestion.

These are not meant to protect contents from theft. They can be easily broken into. They are meant to keep items safe from a fire.
Also, shouldn't the price be in the title?

The recent reviews are not great at all with the keys not working and lock getting stuck or rubber gasket falling out. Really shoddy production and low QC.

If you watch reviews, it breaks down to while the container may survive, they do not guarantee the contents of the box won't see 200+ degree temperatures. Essentially the contents will cook. There's nothing that's truly going to protect your contents the way you expect for this price.

Make sure you put a desiccant packet inside it to address humidity buildup. I just picked up Honeywell 1114 safe

So what's a good fire rating? This is 30 min @ 1550 F

I have that safe. Super heavy and feels sturdy. Definitely put desiccant packet in unless you want to air it out weekly/monthly.

There's a video on the Amazon page, right up top, of a guy opening and closing it with a pair of scissors in the lock. Seems too big to hide and small enough to easily walk away with. $30 for the idea of a safe sounds about what you're paying.
