There won't be an auto shutoff in the quad, though, so you'll need to either add one or never let the batteries drain. Otherwise the batteries will completely drain and they aren't rechargeable then.
also, the seat doesn't easily lift off, so you'll need to either modify that or deal with screws to pull it off to get to the batteries each time.
You can get larger motors on eBay and go to 36v, and run in series? To use two batteries and get more power. That's honestly the there way to go. There's whole kits with better throttles and battery indicators, etc. for these on eBay.

Biggest suggestion for those kids under 5 is adding a limiter to help them figure out a twist throttle.
I converted my oldest (now 5) to 36v with Ryobi batteries. Even in 24v the form it can handle mud just fine. Biggest benefit of Ryobi batteries is ability to hot swap them for continuous riding. Standard batteries take awhile to charge back up
