Brushless are better for sure, but these are still good. Especially with the LSA. I've been buying Ridgid stuff for about a decade? (Maybe longer?) and my OG drill and driver are still going strong. I keep hoping they'll die and I'll send them in for repair and they'll just replace them with brushless (a guy can dream), BUT they won't die. And I've never found myself wanting more power than they put down.

TL/DR Brushless are better but these are still fine (and a pretty damn good deal, too).

I 100% agree. With the LSA for your average home user, this is one of the best deals I've ever come across. I just posted that they're brushed as that's what the majority want.

Yep, totally agree. Good to know that they're brushed -- always good to know what you're getting -- and yeah, great deal.

Great homeowner see - unless your using these all day for work brushes gets the job done. Remember peopleUsed brushed cordless tools for 30Years before brushless became available.

there's a higher grade/more powerful/dependability angle. It can make good sense to spend more if you're doing some tradesman tasks, you don't want any breakdowns/failures when you are 100 miles away from any real city.

But, for the weekend warrior or do-it-yourselfer, you will have a hard time ever wearing out the brushed tools vs brushless. And, ridgid seems to have the best customer support, they will send you parts to fix things if they do break down. or, ya can mail the worn out tool into ridgid service center. they've got the best warranty and support in the industry. I'm in pretty deep with milwaukee and bosch ecosystem, but if I had it to do over again, I'd buy most or all of my stuff from ridgid, and cherry pick a few tools that I worry about wearing out. And the tools that are certainly in that category are the cordless drill and "impact" wrench. They are two of the most common tools anyone will use, and by the time you start thinking about repairing, you may be happy to upgrade into the newer version of those tools.

I wish they would cut out the stupid extra's and lower the price. Don't need that flashlight or blower or the vacuum for a good starter system.

I've got a set from 2013 that refuse to die. Ive been waiting for them to die for years to upgrade.

I have 2 set over 20 years old. never malfunctioned. the work lights are a different story but they replaced them. batteries, did great, couple failed, lifetime replacement and were replaced. Having said that my fuel milw. impact is 3 levels above the Ridgid in strength, but that's not always a good thing. It can twist a deck screw in half with a pop of the trigger.

How is Ridgid compared to Ryobi or Craftsman? I bought the set for $199 from Craftsman for light house work so trying to figure out if I should buy this instead or keep Craftsman.

I would say generally it is a step up

If one doesn't use the tools regularly, they may all suffice. So it becomes a question of economics.

I'm not sure about the Craftsman ecosystem for future additions to your tool inventory, but Ridgid and Ryobi have extensive offerings

I have Ridgid and I have DeWalt in their upper tier offerings. I work in the trades and honestly use them interchangeably. I have used Ryobi (not my own), the build quality is lighter and the ergonomics weren't as refined

This is much better than Craftsman. Those brushed Craftsman tools were already dated designs when they came out 8 years ago and they haven't done anything to improve them.

I'm into the ridgid line, but if I weren't and I were considering it... this is a banger of a deal for all of that. I think I paid $200 way back when for the impact drill and drill/driver with 2x4ah batteries way back when... I also get tons of use out of my sawzall. The only worthless tools on there is the blower and flashlight (since most of us already have flash lights).
