Professional geologist here. This hammer is the standard of the US geology world and euro geos always want one. Knockoff chinese hammers last literally 1/4 of use in comparison. I had to buy the cheap ones for a sampling crew and they killed em inside a week. This Estwing lasted a month.

Former field geologist. I also endorse this rock hammer, specifically this version over the fiberglass version. The grip is more comfortable for extended uses. If you are doing soft rock geology I'd recommend Estwings brick laying hammer instead. The flattened chiseled end works better in separating layers than the pick version imo. You can find it at Lowe's or home Depot.
