yes, all of them can be played at 1080p with high to high-mediam settig and getting 100 FPS+ for Mine Craft and Valorant and around 50-60 fps for Dead by DayLight.

I am sorry to be that guy, but I've looked all over and read a bunch of threads, but it seems that the CPU naming conventions aren't very good at conveying their purpose. I hope someone can help me out. I purchased the minisforum UM790 pro 32GB/1TB for $542 + tax. It was delivered Wednesday and is sitting on my coffee table - unopened. This seems like a much better deal in that it has a slightly better processor (I think) than the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS in the Minisforum (but I am not certain of this) and the CPU uses less power. I want to use this mostly for emulation - including newer emulation, but would probably also play a few games through windows (my wife likes Forza). It'll likely stay attached to my TV. Can anyone give some advice?

For all practical uses, the H255 and the 7940hs are the same processor. The 7940 may give 1-2% higher performance due to slightly higher clock speeds, but the h255 is just a rebrand of it.

Is it roughly the same performance but with a much lower tdp?

The H255 has a TDP of 45w, compared to the 7940HS at 54w.

So, this CPU, the Ryzen 7 H 255, is functionally a Ryzen 7 260 with a defective NPU, so they disabled and resold it to the Chinese market to improve usable wafer yield. At least that's the word on the street. You'll find it only in Chinese market products like these minis.

Here's AMD's Chinese CPU listing for the CPU: https://www.amd.com/zh-cn/product...h-255.html

For reference, here's a Ryzen 7 8845HS, another CPU it's extremely similar to: https://www.amd.com/en/products/p...845hs.html

Here's the Ryzen 7 260 it's apparently derived from, but with the NPU enabled. Notice the same 3.8Ghz base clock, with only the boost clock being higher on the 260, likely to slightly differentiate it: https://www.amd.com/en/products/p...7-260.html

It's functionally the same if you put it in similar thermal setups to the 8845HS and Ryzen 7 260. The Ryzen 8 7940HS may slightly outperform these, but it'll be a very narrow range, generally within 5% in benchmarks, as all 4 used the TSMC 4nm process. The only real difference is the 7940HS is based upon the older Phoenix series, with an older NPU that's slightly less performative. If you don't bother with LLMs on your machine or tasks that require that NPU however, there's almost no difference.

If gaming is your purpose for this, all those CPUs use the venerable Radeon 780M.

For anyone interested in a deeper discussion on this CPU and how the NPU might simply be disabled to meet Chinese government requirements:

It has a configurable TDP of 35-54W. It's an NPU-disabled Ryzen 7 260 with a slightly lower boost clock.

https://www.amd.com/zh-cn/product...h-255.html

Ryzen 9 7940HS has the same configurable TDP or 35-54W, so it's vendor based how much power they'll allow the board to feed it.

You got confused with the cTDP and the default TDP. 7940HS has a default TDP of 35W which can be increased up to 54W and decreased up to 28W. This H2255 has default TDP of 45W and caan be increased up to same 54W. In fact, in this mini PC, you can literally set the H255 CPU TDP to 55W from the BIOS. The main difference is H 255 has the 13 TOPS NPU disabled.
