Tis the season! Folks want deals on laptops. Manufacturers want to dump dated hardware without scrapping it. The result is a lot of frankenbuilds with mostly o.k. hardware but 8 gigs of soldered ram or keyboards without backlighting or proprietary power ports. Read the specs carefully. Figure out what you (or your gift recipient) can live with (or what you're able/willing to upgrade/replace) and proceed with caution!

It is clearly mentioned in the description, "1x USB-C® (USB 10Gbps / USB 3.2 Gen 2), with Lenovo® PD 140W and DisplayPort™ 1.4". PD means power delivery, meaning it can charge via the USB-C port.

The Lenovo website says 140W power delivery on USBC port.
Except: USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (DisplayPort™ 1.4, 140W Power Delivery, 10Gbps data transfer rate)

the student discount made me pay $3.50 more. Dont sign in with your student IDme. That Victus at bestbuy at $550 with a Ryzen 7 seems like a better deal and allows paypal 4 pay.

Totally agree and that's what I noticed that Manufacturers just wanted to dump dated hardware and not really any worthy deals this year. Well of course there are some deals on either dated or entry level specs.
One in this post is very weak combination of processor/GPU.

I'm trying to find a budget gaming laptop for my 13 yo. Would you say the Victus at best buy is a better laptop than this one? Any other recommendations around $500? Was also looking at PCs but couldn't find anything in this price range

This is better than Hp victus. Did extensive research including watching review videos on various laptops including both above and the LOQ performs better than Victus most notably the victus can't reach full build performance potential compared to LOQ. Plus the camera is better on the intel version over amd

I can confirm the laptop indicates it's charging when a usb c charger is plugged in. I went to bb to test and also bought one. Now is this a good laptop? It's ok, nothing special. I tried for the Newegg door busters and ended up buying this fearing deals would only get worse for cyber Monday. I saw some good cyber Monday deals and have some regret as now as I did use my pay in 4 deal.

While a budget laptop and a gaming laptop aren't mutually exclusive there' isn't a lot of overlap. You will need to make compromises. Between the two choices you've listed the considerations are:

CPU - The Victus has a Ryzen 7 7445HS which is 54% faster in aggregate benchmark scores than the Ryzen 5 7235HS in the Lenovo.
GPU - While both laptops feature the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050, the Victus has less power, limiting its performance.
Display - The technical specs are similar but users report the Lenovo's colors run together and have a pinkish hue.
Power - The HP has a proprietary power connector. The Lenovo has USB-C power which is easier to replace and run more power through your laptop for improved performance.

I'd choose the Victus - You'll notice the slower CPU long before seeing a difference in the GPU performance. You will notice the improved display in the HP. The proprietary power connector isn't ideal, but people lived with them for decades and no one died.
