Community Reviews

Wyze Wi Fi 6E Mesh Router Pro is a budget mesh kit that stands out for its 6E support, multi gig Ethernet, USB connectivity, and strong 5 GHz throughput. The low profile nodes and future proof networking make it appealing as an upgrade from an older ISP router or a very old single router. The main concerns are limited settings, weak parental controls, and reports that the units run extremely hot. Firmware updates have also been sparse, so long term support looks uncertain. A cheap way to test mesh performance if you can live with the basics.

  • The Wyze Wi‑Fi 6E Mesh Router Pro 2‑pack includes multi‑gig Ethernet and USB connectivity for higher-performance wired options.

  • The 6 GHz Wi‑Fi 6E channel can provide higher theoretical speeds when devices have good line of sight to the router or satellite.

  • Upgrading from an ISP router can improve home coverage and speed even when only one mesh node is used.

  • The deal can be attractive for buyers who need a replacement mesh system and already use Wyze cameras in their ecosystem.

  • The units can run extremely hot, and that heat is described as scalding hot in reviews and the manual.

  • Firmware support appears sparse, with updates described as roughly one per year and Wyze stopping support for the product line.

  • The routers have limited settings and weaker parental controls, which can restrict how much network management is possible.

  • Using two mesh units as wireless-only routers may not noticeably improve signal, and some core features like dnsmasq and DDNS may be missing.

Nobody mentioned if this was sold by Walmart or a marketplace seller like VIP Outlet. I wonder if Walmart has it for $50 for people near a location with it in stock but $56 for VIP Outlet? Or did Walmart itself never sell this for $50 or $56?

Second I did a bit of web searching on the Wyze which is now much faster with A I. The Wyze does run hot and can only be managed through the Internet where it keeps a continously open socket with occasional keep alive packets. Fortunately it appears it's based in the US so hopefully Wyze doesn't farm their firmware out to China who is known to snoop people's data. Also Wyze firmware cannot be changed to custom router firmware so it's going to be a very basic network setup unless you make the Wyze handle wireless only and use a more capable router in control which is the only way I would ever use these.

As the first time I've ever read about mesh routers, it seems all they do is efficiently hand wireless connections to the strongest signal rather than hold onto the existing connection until it's unusable with a brief gap reconnecting to a stronger SSID. It's hard to know how much difference this will make which is why I checked it says returnable in store even if you buy from VIP Outlet.

$48.99 at Wyze.com - https://www.wyze.com/products/wyz...3161952418 [wyze.com]
Is it worth $7 more to be able to return it to a Walmart store than ship it? Probably even though Wyze.com says they send a prepaid shipping label. I simply have no idea how much better 2 mesh units will be than a single more powerful router for wireless.
That 2-pack of routers that you linked to isn't the same. The ones in your link are the regular Wyze WiFI 6 routers. The $56 one is the WiFi 6E Wyze Pro model.

In for one (well, a 2-pack). I got a new place and my older Orbi RBR20/RBS20 router isn't supported anymore. I've used Wyze cameras since V1, and while they can be a bit dodgy at times, at this price, I'll give 'em a try.
I ordered the $50 2-pack, but I got an email with an order cancellation. I tried ordering again ($56 this time) and so far, it has gone through.

Good catch. I'm not too knowledgeable on Wyze products. Then the $56 Walmart deal is the best option. I still think it's very iffy if adding 2 of these to an existing network to handle wireless only will make any noticeable difference in wireless speeds/signal, but I guess we have until January 31st to return to a Walmart store. I do cringe at the thought of people using these as their sole routers since they are so limited in features. I can't live without dnsmasq and ddns.

This hasn't had a firmware update in a long while. Wyze has stopped supporting them. These units also run crazy hot. So not sure how long this will last.
I just took a look. Their firmware updates really aren't impressive. They had three since the router was released. Basically one a year.

Walmart and Wyze.com are totally different products. One from Walmart is 6E, tri-band (has a 6Ghz channel) and has 1 x2.5Gbs wired port. While one at Wyze is 6, dual-band and got 1 Gbs wired ports

$48 2 pack directly from Wyze. So why risk a WM 3rd party seller?

Be careful with Wyze. there must be a hidden reason, it is this cheap. Hint: All your data goes thru it. no encryption can protect your data.

Not that I don't share your concern about sketchy products - I've given a hard pass on TCL routers for similar concerns, but that's a Chinese company. Wyze is not (though they have had their share of security concerns, mostly breaches).

There are plenty of types of encryption that could keep your data safe from prying eyes, depending on what you're doing.

Regardless, anyone with these concerns should probably also avoid using products by Nest (Google) or eero (Amazon) as well.

You'd be best off going with companies that aren't based in PRC, and aren't in the data brokering business.

My personal recommendation would be Ubiquiti if you can afford it and can figure out the setup.

Netgear is also an option if you want something easier.

Acer and Asus are also fine until Taiwan gets invaded by China.

My experience with Wyze has been that if they're selling it cheap it's to turn it into a subscription service later.

There are two models. Regular and Pro. The one on sale that we are talking about is the Pro. You are looking at the regular one.
