Fyi they also have the 420 on sale for $200.

If you're on a budget that is probably the better deal ime.

The only real difference is DV, especially with how well their Optimizer tone maps HDR.

Double the price may not be worth DV especially since not all content offers it.

Also a note, both the 420 and 820 offer the ability to change the intensity and position of subtitles unlike the Panasonic 154 and 450 - so the 420/820 are worth the extra cash if you ever watch movies with subtitles, as sometimes they are coded too bright.

I never realized these are so expensive that's crazy! Don't think I'll ever need one but this is interesting. At this price point wouldn't it make sense to buy a Gaming Console that's about the same price ?
Edit*^Such as PS5 that supports BluRay disks

A PS5 can play UHD and regular blu-rays as well as DVDs. On top of PS5 games it can also play most PS4 titles you may have on disc as well. It's a no-brainier.

Edit: I guess the PS5 cannot do Dolby Vision according to the other comments.

no. the PS5 and Xbox X have crummy 4K drives. they don't support dolby Vision, and they're not as good. the UB820 and the X800M2 were considered best of the midrange units before you go up to the $1K plus players

Why would anybody buy a bluray player over a PS5 at this point ?
because the PS5 is a sub par player compared to a dedicated one. especially if you want Dolby Vision

Why would I want a PS5? I have a ~$15k gaming PC.

Bestbuy had this for $350 last year during a cyber Monday deal. I believe Amazon did as well, but sold out quickly. Hopefully it will return this holiday season.

What is Blu-ray? Is it like a 5-1/2" floppy?
