Damn, I know RAM prices went up but didn't know SSD prices went up too. Was looking for 2TB around $100 or less. Guess that ain't happening anytime soon

Could just be the discounts aren't as steep as expected. Unless the SSD is a version that uses DRAM (the higher performance ones often do), there's not that much reason for SSD to spike like RAM has recently.

No technical reason why it couldn't. It's a 1 TB drive though, if you're going to upgrade, might as well start at 2 TB.

PS5 just needs a Gen 4 NVME M.2 SSD. This Gen 5 Crucial is fine for it, since it's backwards compatible to the older Gen 4 slot on the PS5.

NAND and DRAM shortages and production at maximum (but short of the current demand) are due to AI growth. SSDs prices are headed the way of RAM.

You can get much better deals on 2TB+ drives than 1TB's for whatever reason. I've been eyeing prices since last year and have seen tons of 2TB drives at $120 but never see 1TB drives at $60. I've wanted to add 1 TB each to my PS5 and SteamDeck and would much rather spend $120 total than $240 for an extra 2TB I don't really need, but at this point I might just bite the bullet and go with 2TB drives because 1TB's are severely overpriced.
