Is this the one that has a lot of malware? I see some businesses have this one. But not sure if it's risky.
They had an issue 2 years ago - ask google AI - they acknowledged and fixed the issue i believe. That said I just learned that Amazon was tracking my Apple Watch activation with Apple without my knowledge.
Here is AI output
"ACEMAGIC mini PCs manufactured before November 2023 were found to have pre-installed malware that posed severe privacy risks. The company has acknowledged the issue and claims it has been resolved in newer shipments.
The Privacy Concerns
In early 2024, reports from reviewers and customers revealed that several ACEMAGIC mini PC models (including the S1, AD08, and AD15) were shipped with factory-installed malware. This was found within the Windows operating system installation files and the system recovery partition, meaning a factory reset would not remove it.
The specific malware families identified were Bladabindi (a backdoor trojan) and Redline Stealer (an info-stealer). These types of malware are designed to:
Steal credentials, usernames, and passwords from browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Opera).
Copy cryptocurrency wallet information.
Log keystrokes.
Capture screenshots and record video via the camera.
Connect to remote servers to download and run more files.
ACEMAGIC stated that the issue stemmed from developers making adjustments to the Microsoft source code to reduce boot times without obtaining proper digital signatures, which led to security software flagging the files as viruses.
Was It Resolved?
ACEMAGIC has stated the issue was contained to a "first shipment" of products and claims to have implemented corrective measures.
Timeline of Resolution: The company asserts that all files have been digitally signed and the issue resolved since November 28, 2023.
Customer Verification: Customers can check the production date on the bottom sticker of their device.
Company Actions: ACEMAGIC offered full refunds, return shipping costs, or partial compensation (up to 25% of the price) for affected units.
Expert Recommendation: Despite the company's claims, many security experts and tech reviewers still highly recommend performing a clean reinstallation of the Windows operating system using installation media directly from Microsoft, regardless of the brand, to ensure all hidden malware is completely removed from the system and recovery partition. "
This seems lower than other recent 8745HS deals, but has the same or higher specs from what I can tell. Is this a good deal on this CPU/RAM combo?
This is the lowest I have seen this BF. 8845hs/8745hs/h255 are all essentially the same - couldn't find anything for less than $400.The same seller has other slightly older cpu models for under $300 and some even under $200

So you missed the deal Firebat A5P - refurbished for $234. 8745HS/512GB/16GB.
I think the deal happened about a month before BF...
I find BF is never the dirt cheapest on computers. But I have seen a few sick laptop deals.

I really wanted 32GB since I was going to use for proxmox
So I got my 32GB for $50 from facebookmarketplace. It wasn't even local, he wanted $45 and I asked how much if he ships it to me. DDR5 5600. And I have the old RAM... will sell it for $60 cause I'm a asshole.
Mini PC's are really easy to upgrade... just be extra careful cause they use the CHEAPEST and I mean THE CHEAPEST components. Triple check everything before and after you install RAM and a M.2. If it is off just a little, it may give you error messages or issues.

I tried looking on marketplace but was not having much luck.
Slightly confusing... The story that I read was Acemagic hired a third party to install Windows and this company installed the spyware. Once they learned about it, they fired that company and have a new company that installs the software. As far as they know or want, you are suppose to get a CLEASE OS with no spyware. UNLIKE LENOVO OR SAMSUNG. LENOVO... GOT PAID MILLIONS to install a third parties spyware. MILLIONS AND MILLIONS. 2018ISHSAMSUNG... THIS IS HAPPENING TODAY!!!! NOW!!! THEY ARE SELLING MILLION OF DEVICES WITH SPYWARE!!! and they got paid MILLION AND MILLION AND MILLION... so some company can do what they want to your device AND UNLIKE ACEMAGIC, the software is BUILT INTO THE SAMSUNG OS AND CAN NOT BE DELETED.
I don't know the details - I am just going with what Gemini is telling me - but I don't worry about this cutthroat Chinese guys spying when all American company are legally stealing all my data and selling it to the highest bidder who can do a lot more harm in manipulating/scamming me then anyone from China. Of course i debloat, scan and do the basic checks
