After talking to PayPal yesterday, I learned that once you save PayPal as a payment option on a website such as Walmart, whatever PayPal payment option you selected when you saved it becomes the default (even if your default payment method on your PayPal account is currently different). I paid for some tires yesterday on Walmart with PayPal with the intention of earning the 20% reward. But the checkout went right through without giving me any PayPal payment options to select and used my Chase CC on my PayPal account. I was expecting it to prompt me to log onto PayPal and select a payment method so that I could select the buy now pay later option to earn the 20% reward. I called PayPal to find out the story and the rep explained that since I already had what he called "an automatic payment" stored on Walmart account for PayPal, I wasn't going to be prompted to pick a different one. He offered to remove it for me from his side but I simply removed PayPal from my Walmart payment methods and canceled the order and then reordered the tires. When I selected PayPal (which was no longer saved as a payment method) on the second order, I was prompted to log into my PayPal account which then allowed me to select the buy now pay later option. Now I see the 20% reward pending from the purchase.

- Login to Paypal and go to rewards. The offer should show on top in under Featured rewards. Make sure you click on the save button to save the offer in your Paypal account .
- Go to your Walmart account and go to Settings -> Wallet and if you already have Paypal saved in your wallet, remove it.
- Go to walmart (or you can be frugal -wink wink- to sweeten then deal with an extra 2% back) and add the console to your cart ($450+tax)
- Click checkout and scroll on the right side, you should see the paypal button. Click it.
- A popup will appear, login to your Paypal account. You should see multiple options on top of the popup use the 4 payment option and select the payment method (if you can use a chase Freedom card you can save another 5%). check the authorization checkbox and click authorize.
- You will be redirected back to Walmart. Click place order.
To confirm you received the reward. go to your Paypal account - > Activity and you should see the Walmart purchase showing the full amount paid ($450+ tax) and right below the amount you will see the reward points pending. In my case it was 9732 points (i.e. $97.32 back back). The reward will be pending for up to 90 days to account for the return period. So you should see the cash in your Paypal account by end of February.
Since then, the Pay in 4 option no longer appears on my Paypal account. I tried on the Walmart app, and I tried in incognito mode. I also chose different bank accounts and credit cards.
I called Paypal, and they were able to remove the authorizations from my account. Even then, the Pay in 4 option no longer appears - I only get Pay in Full and Pay Monthly as my only options.
Anyone else encountered this issue? I'd really like to get the Switch 2 for our kids, particularly with the 20% cashback deal.
