Uber Eats has a YMMV offer for $25 off of $75 for Retail purchases.

The Google TV Streamer (4K) is currently on sale for $74.99 via BestBuy. You will need a filler item, which I used Lively SIM/eSIM kit for $2 which brings the subtotal to 76.99. With Uber one I got:
$76.99 Subtotal
$0 delivery
$8.90 Service fee
$7.70 Taxes
-$2 scheduled delivery discount
-$3.85 Membership Benefit
-$25 coupon
Total = $62.84

If you caught the Costco Uber Gift Card deal $100 GC for $75, it makes the net price $47.13. You can still purchase the Uber Gift card for $100 GC for $80

You can also get the Google Streamer from Lowe's, Home Depot, Staples, etc.

I got ONN 4k max, is this any better?
IMO the Google device is the best due to the number of software updates it gets when compared to ONN. If people can stretch their budget the premium is worth it for the years of OS software updates.

It will definitely do the trick but it's honestly probably overkill if that's all you need. If you have the plex app on your phone, a previous gen chromecast will easily fit that bill. But this has the benefit of having more memory and CPU power for future-proofing and more versatility if you actually use it in your home.
thx for the feedback

Mainly I just want something take with me to my friends house when I visit so I can use my own plex media at full quality without any buffering issues (disregard internet issues, mainly just focusing on making sure device has enough CPU power).

I will try the chromecast method as her TV should have it built in before I spend money on something like this.

I do miss Kodi .. But I've moved onto self hosted using *arr/jellyfin stack , though I see superboxes being commonly sold and marketed

But lmk if Kodi is still relevant, maybe I'll fire up my old shield
Kodi still is, there are a bunch of good builds around still getting regular updates.

looks like Google is pivoting to compete against Apple TV rather than competing against Amazon Firestick/cheap Android boxes - they can put out the bare minimum boxes out, market it as premium, and charge basically what Apple charges for its Apple TV Box. There is also no competition besides Apple TV since the Shield hasnt been updated in almost 2 decades
Shield is still the better most complete and more flexible option.

for the general public aka 95% of people, nothing beats Apple TV, the UI and actual speed of browsing is unmatched even by the Shield

if you need to do anything more than downloading an app, the Shield is it
