A good 3x3 in 2020 has a flexible adjustable tensioned core, rounded edge corners for better tuning, and 48 edge magnets for stability.
In the past few years top of the line cubes have corner core magnets that help the layers auto align.
The Moyu RS3M v5 ballcore cube is the undisputed best you can buy under $20, and currently on in sale for $19.
Without corner core magnets it's still great cube for $8-11. (A year ago it was $5-8).
I highly recommend buying Moyu, GAN that all the fastest cubers in the world use. Turning the cube is much more satisfying, easier on the hands and less frustrating. People are more likely to enjoy using them. At this point Rubik's cubes are more for collectors and people who won't actually learn to solve it. At worst, it's plastic waste. Rubik's best cube, the speed version is made by GAN. Rubik's TM has been sold multiple times to different toy conglomerates, their patents expired in 2000 and Erno Rubik isn't even making money off it at this point. He is one of the richest people in Hungry anyways.
Buy from the best brand names that are actively innovating with this brilliant 40 year old puzzle.
