This was a bad intro camera at release half a century ago and will never reach vintage status.

Is it a good deal or this should be avoided? Looking for SD community advice, TIA.

Depends on your use case. If it's just family photography and casual stuff, it'll be fine. If you think you'll want to use other lenses, or pursue photography as an enthusiast, this isn't it. If you're not already, I wouldn't want to get locked into Canon's lens system, which is more closed than others (Sony, for example). DSLR itself is on its way out, mirrorless is better in every way that matters.

For reference, the equivalent "current" budget Canon mirrorless is, I believe, the R100, which is available for $500. Note, though, this takes "RF" lenses, and an adapter is required for EF/EF-S lenses.

So, yeah, for what it is, $330 was a good deal for what is ultimately a dead-end range, but if it's likely to become more of a hobby, anything from the "R" line-up would be a better long term option at this point.

And I say this as someone with a sizeable investment in EF/EF-S lenses...

What would you recommend if you wanted to get into photography, but aren't sure if you really will go down the road of using lenses or becoming an enthusiast? Like something that gives you the option of going that route, but is also totally fine for casual stuff. What should I expect for prices?
Total noob, but I'm going on a solo trip and it reminded me how I've never taken great photos and having a camera that is better than my iPhone or the old school point-and-shoot digital cameras from 15+ years ago has been a goal of mine for a long time.

Barring a specific need, the biggest benefit of a mirrorless or dslr quality relies on post processing to bring out the best of a shot. This is a one minute to hour long process depending on the end goal of the shot. If you're not going to be doing this, then a point and shoot or smart phone is going to end up getting you better shots.

To be honest, the camera in your iPhone is probably the best balance of quality and convenience for travel. There's an old saying, the best camera is the one you have with you. SLR or mirrorless, it's a lot to carry with you. For an novice who is going to be mostly shooting in one of the auto modes, your iPhone will do as well or better - there's a lot of complicated software in the phone cameras that lead to great shots.

If you do decide to go down the mirrorless path, I'd look at the Sony Alpha line, or the Panasonic Lumix line. Both have wide availability of third-party (meaning cheaper) lenses. Each line has its own high-end and low-end, so you can spend what you want.
