You can do an eSIM swap to get it unlocked instantly with ATT phones but it's YMMV.

You can also ask CS nicely and they will unlock your phone if you have already paid the full price. The new Here are the steps for eSIM swap and some other information around plan cancellation etc. The new ATT policy says automatic unlock after 60 days without active service just like Verizon and I can't vouch whether that's true or not.

After buying the phone in Walmart in installments, you can pay off phone via ATT online chat. For Verizon you have to go to a store.

ATT activation fee can be voided instantly from the bill by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" when the bill arrives even if it's more than 3 days from activation which will mostly happen if you ship it to your house.

ATT version can be instantly unlocked using eSIM swap. It's YMMV but for most people it works if you follow the instructions below and do the transfer of the eSIM properly from iPhone to another phone.

Even if the eSIM swap does not work I have seen some getting the phone unlocked by chatting with CS once the phone is paid off. That also is YMMV

Sim swap instructions

There are two timelines for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. But as mentioned earlier that fee can be voided instantly by clicking on "Don't recognize this fee" in the bill even after 3 days.

You can use SIM swap method method to unlock the device. You will have to try the SIM swap roughly 24 hours after paying off the phone. The unlock portal syncs with the billing system every night.

When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the eSIM. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network.

Then transfer the eSIM to another unlocked phone. Make sure you are transferring the eSIM without making a new one so no ATT involvement.

Reboot the other phone, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.

Now go to ATT unlock portal (in incognito mode) and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of iPhone nd submit an unlock request using a different email, phone number, name etc not associated with the ATT account.

Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.

ONLY CANCEL THE LINE AFTER YOU HAVE UNLOCKED THE PHONE. OTHERWISE, YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT ANYMORE.

Sucks that everyone has the same question and there is still no answer. Do I need a service plan? or can I just buy this, pay it off of and get it unlock immediately or at least in a few days?

Were they bill credits so you were locked in? That's the rub usually.

yeap, it is super YMMV thats why people need to consider if it fail you have to pay full price $500 for iPhone 15 plus. if its not worth it for you, at least you wont feel bad that you missed the deal
I was going to purchase the phone anyways but I didn't really need the upgrade until next year. I just wanted the same deal people were excited about, at the end of the day I paid it and moved on but it definitely left me skeptical about doing these type of phone deals since I always buy unlocked anyways.

You need to purchase with a service plan. Now, you can probably do that, pay it off quickly, request unlock, and cancel service, but that's for you to try.

I would love to use this on Wi-Fi if I could only get it USD 299 out the door, no financing mess. Anyone know if this is possible? If so, how? I don't need it unlocked. I am still using my total wireless iPhone se 2020 locked to total, I never even bothered to insert the sim card.
You have to finance it. No way around it.

T-Mobile doesn't let you upgrade a line. Only a new account or add a line....not worth it.
Worth it to me.

I added 3 lines and got 3 phones (tried for more but couldn't ).

I'll get the phones, pay off balances and unlock and then cancel lines. I am on TMO anyways and will give to family as cheap upgrades.

I currently have a 4GB data plan and do not want to move to an unlimited plan. Can I get this phone and keep my current 4GB plan?

Does the register process asking for a SSN?
If you try to start service with T-Mobile for this deal, then yes, it does.

to me this only work in best scenario if you already AT&T customer, add another line to your account, pay off the phone, request to unlock and waive the $35 activation fees, the total come out is $299 + $90 + $24 tax = $415. then cancel the extra line after 60 days when the phone is unlocked. On Swappa used unlock iphone 15 plus 512GB is $545.

You can pay off the whole balance shortly after activation, so you don't have to be tied to this for 36 months. And then you need service for at least 60 days before you can unlock it. I'm not sure about plans and all those tricks since I actually have AT&T and just did an upgrade. But basically, you can request an unlock once the balance is $0 and after 60 days of service.

how is this deal different than the last Walmart deal for the Iphone 16 pro w/ $500 GC? Most if not all were able to unlock the phones immediately after paying it off.

Do you mean pay off $299.16 after activation and request for unlocking the phone after 60 days? Will it work?
