I have had multiple gaming laptops over the years dating back around 2010 or so I remember having a dope alienware with a 680m in it at some point ( think the thing weighed 9lbs lol ). TBH maybe I am just insanely lucky but I have never had one with major issues, other than after a few years the battery needs to be replaced. I generally replace them every 2-3 years I just bought a lenovo 5080 one that is replacing a lenovo 3070 model.

The reason being is that bang for the buck you can get a pretty awesome system ( generally I buy best -1 or 2 on the GPU ) and with it being portable it's awesome, There were definitely some WOW farming sessions in airport lounges on 4 hours delays over the years or playing skyrim in hotels along with numerous other games.

Three things I do now though

1.) Find the setting that shuts the laptop charging off at 80% or so.and other battery saving functions. Playing a gaming laptop away from power should be super rare, so why not have the battery have a longer lifespan.

2.) BUY A METAL COOOLING PAD .. You don't even need to plug it in or turn the fans on just being able to dissipate heat is a huge thing for gaming laptops and a large thin metal surface like that acts as a heatsink for the entire rig. Way better than on a wood surface etc... I generally keep the fans on the pad off some laptops exhaust heat by sucking in air from the bottom and some by blowing it out if you have the fans operating the wrong way it can actually have a negative impact. This allows the laptop to run cooler which in turn prolongs life.

3.) Keep dust out of the laptop, this means cleaning it once ever 6 months or so deep clean and occasionally between using compressed air. I just remember to do it when I change smoke alarm batteries and when we change the clocks forward/back I have an entire list of maintence on things around the house I do those days that takes about all day.

Nice. Absolute best combo deal this black Friday you locked in.
If you stacked cash back and also pay in 4 with a credit card that also gave you cashback, would be sub-$1000 laptop after taxes.

How do you get 20% off with PP? I have that set up also, but it only gives me the option to pay over six months, but no discounts

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out. I guess I'm not eligible 😞

I got this with the PayPal 20% off too, but what cash back deal was available?

Why do people punish their wallet to game on a laptop?

Yeah I guess. If I did that I'd pack an external thunderbolt GPU. Gaming laptops have short lifespans, not to mention all the other drawbacks.

Maintenance sure helps. The biggest killer is likely the huge temperature variance within a session. Electronics don't like that.
