Heard The 5000 series suck.
How's the 9000 series?
Actually the 5000 series are bland but more like workhorses with all the ports you need that includes GB ethernet. It is robust, less premium, more plasticky. But very flexible using DIMMs
The 9000 series is more premium, thinner, metallic and higher end. They do not have ethernet ports might have soldered higher speed RAM like LPDDR5x or the new CAMM modules and ask for a pretty premium...

The 9000 series was definitely a premium, all-aluminum feel meant to evoke a thinner design (even if they aren't really that much thinner than other series). The soldered RAM is the only disappointment bigger than the efficiency-oriented 11th generation CPU models. The remaining 11th generation CPU models in stock right now are functional, long-term productivity machines but honestly I'd suggest their looks exceed their performance capabilities.
Then again, I consider these much nicer to handle than something like the very-plastic 7000 series models with their carbon-fiber lids.
Its frankly atrocious that they sell used 16gig laptops with dead batteries and no graphics card in grade b condition at 350+...i am surprised they get away selling this...
I typically only buy Workstations, as they tend to be of a more professional grade device... Unless you're going for something cheap, light, and semi-disposable; Which a lot of the regular laptops are... I've spent lots of $$$ and had 90% success rate when buying from DellRefurbished.com.... Buy with confidence, and dont forget to buy the extended warranty!

But it's not. Post up a non throw away laptop with the same quality for the same price. I've bought dozens of these, some are still going in a shop environment 8 years later. Any sub $500 NEW laptop might last a year or two, flimsy plastic POS's basically.
Just received mine. Cosmetic condition B...has very minor scratches at the bottom. The metal top, screen, and everything else look pristine so far. Keyboard is on the soft side of what I like. Replaced Windows with Linux. Starts up and runs fast, though I have not pushed the hardware yet. Pretty slick deal for around $220 after tax and free delivery.
The one big bummer is that battery health is at 53%. Any suggestion whether it's better/more convenient to attempt getting credit or ask for new battery to be sent?
I'm going to receive this without OS today. Is there a chance that it'll have a built-in digital license embedded in the motherboard?
The laptop should indeed have a digital license that Windows will identify and activate. Windows 10 and 11 use the same licensing, but you would benefit from checking what shipped with your service tag to validate that you have access to a Pro version (vs. Home).
The biggest problem I've had with the no-OS models is that the Dell recovery fails to work and you are forced to load Windows from a standard clean installation. Some would consider that a benefit.

I can confirm that the "No OS" laptop arrived with Windows 10 Pro already installed in September 2025. I was immediately able to upgrade it to Windows 11 Pro at no cost and it worked like a charm.
I have to say I'm impressed by the quality of the laptop.
The 9000 series 2-in-1 has premium written all over it. It is grade B but I haven't noticed any scratches or visual defects so far.
This 15" bad boy is 1" less in width, 0.75" less in length than my existing 15.6" legacy laptop. I did not measure the height difference.
400 nits touch screen is way brighter than legacy 250 nits. At only 50% brightness, it is same as my 34" Sammy's max brightness.
Core i7-1185G7 (Enterprise vPro) is way snappier and along with 32 GB memory, performance is lapping around my old laptop.
Dual thunderbolt 4 ports and the ability to charge via any universal USB-C PD adapter rounds out the physical profile perfectly.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for quality since I did not take additional warranty.
Edit: I paid total ~$228 including taxes with no shipping cost.

If you confirm the battery health via e-mail Dell refurbished should send you a replacement battery without issue. They've never given me any pushback for a battery health below 80%
Good luck!
Jon
P.S. - If your battery health is at or near 80% the other baseline for Dell refurbished support is 1.5 hours of usage.

There are 11th gens that do start at $351.
