Once the show caught up to the books and had to create it's own stories the show completely sunk and we saw what type of talent that David Benioff and DB Weiss actually had.

Season 8 was so bad that I wished I had never watched any of the previous seasons. It completely ruined the series. It was pointless. A waste of my time.

For me, it was 4 great seasons.

Then 2 lackluster seasons, with iffy writing, but at least some episodes felt up to par.

After that... well... not so good...

I'd want to buy a 4 season set of GOT, or at most 6. The last two seasons we can pretend doesn't exist.

The first two seasons were excellent. Then it started going downhill and turning into all the other nonsense slop that's on TV.
Cut the crap. It didn't start going downhill until the start of season 6 or maybe 5.

I bought seasons 1-6 as they came out (on sale of course). While this is a much better deal and would take up less shelf space, I feel better knowing that I didn't contribute to the final seasons.

Once the book is out, HBO should just redo season 8 and pretend this version never existed.

And yes they can do that. They act as if they never had Westworld

I'd actually like to see them continue from S4, and then include all the things missing from the books ... but no way to do that outside of animation, or a LOT of de-aging.

And supposedly they shot different endings for S8, random stuff to throw off spoilers. It'd be interesting if they one day release an alternate ending. Although knowing how things go, it may be even worse.

Literally the worst final season to a TV series ever.

Yes, more than Sopranos.

Yes, more than Dexter.

Yes, more than Lost.

GoT is in a league of its own with how bad the ending is. And it's not even just the writing. The entire production quality and visuals of the final season is absolute garbage (when prior seasons had such amazing scenes). I feel horrible for the actors, they didn't deserve to go out like that.
Dexter was way worse.

Didn't watch Dexter or Lost, so can't comment on those.

But you are probably right in so far as expectations go. Or from how good the show once was, to where it ended up. If the show was mediocre the entire time, we'd likely shrug and say it was a so-so or not so great ending.

But from masterpiece to... well... what we got... it was a rather far drop.

I wish at least one state (like California or New York) would let consumers sue retailers for selling it with a "digital copy" which does not exist.

Once they get sued by a state attorney the retailers and studios will clean this crap up for everyone.
It's really just one studio in particular that is the problem, Warner Bros. They expire everything, even if it doesn't have a date on it.

I'm watching it on HBO Max for the first time too. I'm on season 1, episode 6, and so far it's just as I remembered from the books. It'll be a shame if the last couple of seasons aren't worth watching but I'm enjoying it so far.
