This is a cheap new RTX 5050 aimed at 1080p gaming, with DLSS 4, a warranty, and enough output ports for multi monitor setups. At around $190 after rebate, it lands near the RTX 4060 and is viewed as strong value for budget builds, especially for buyers avoiding used cards. The main cautions are its 8GB of VRAM and 8 lane PCIe 5.0 interface, which can stutter on older PCIe 3.0 systems. Frame generation can smooth gameplay, but it also adds latency and is less useful on weak hardware.

Common Questions (5)

  • Frame generation can make motion look smoother, but it also increases latency, can reduce responsiveness, and may add artifacts and extra VRAM use. It is most useful when the base framerate is already decent and you have a high-refresh monitor, not as a fix for very low FPS.

  • Yes, it is being treated as a solid $190-$200 1080p budget card, with performance cited around RTX 3060 to RTX 4060 territory depending on the comparison. It is especially appealing if you want a new card, lower power use, and do not want to gamble on the used market.

  • It can work on PCIe 3.0, but the card's PCIe 5.0 x8 interface may run at x8 on older boards and can cause stuttering or bad 1% lows when games exceed 8GB of VRAM. It is a much safer buy on PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 systems.

  • A used RTX 3060 Ti or 3070 is reported to have better raw performance for around $200, while the RTX 5050 adds DLSS 4 and a warranty. The 5050 is also newer and lower-risk if you want a new card instead of buying used.

  • It has 4 display outputs: 3 DisplayPort and 1 HDMI. That should handle multi-monitor setups well, including systems with several displays.

Could this weak video card support multiple monitors?
Google AI says 4 monitors. Didnt list resolutions though.

I am a AMD RX480, all I am trying to do is finish Half Life Alyx on a quest 2 and play modern games at 1080p. Is this a worth upgrade? I have an xbox which I do most my gaming on but still would like to join in with my PC friends every now and then. ATX AB350 Pro4 motherbooard and Ryzen 5 CPU

The 5050 has PCIe 5x8 which will run at 3x8 on your motherboard which is not ideal but in reality is only going to be a few FPS lower than on a PCIe Gen 4 or 5 board.

Assuming no CPU bottleneck, its double the performance of the RX 480 even without framegen.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

If you have an older computer this is NOT a good upgrade. This card only has 8 PCIE lanes. If your motherboard is still PCIE 3.0, then it's going to limit the bandwidth. When games exceed 8GB of ram (and they often will), this data is swapped to the main system ram, through the limited PCIE connection. This will lead to very bad stuttering. You really are better off with a used RTX 3060 TI, which will have twice the bandwidth on your older PCIE slot. This card runs WORSE than the 3060 TI in many modern games, due to this issue.
If your motherboard has PCIE 5.0, then this isn't as much of a problem.

Also, you can use the Lossless Scaling program ($3.50 on sale, $7 when not) to do frame gen on older cards. I have been running this on my 3060TI, and it's very good, only slightly worse than Nvidia's solution. The best part about Lossless Scaling is that it works in every app I've tried it on. Nvidia frame gen only works on games with it deliberately implemented.

The RTX 5050 just isn't a good product. This is mainly made for people with lower budgets who aren't well informed
Just b/c someone's budget doesn't flourish doesn't make them less intelligible than someone whose budget may be infinite. Think before you comment next time since you giving DIY PC hobbyists/builders a bad name...

Stacked the Amex $20 off 60 and some cb. For almost half the price of the 5060 TI (which may never come back in stock), I can live with 8GB vram for a generation. Thanks OP!
And if you have an older board the 5050 works out a lot better. Because the 5060ti is extremely bottlenecked by older gen pcie slots. They both use an x8 interface but the 5050 doesn't bottleneck as much.

Not everyone needs to be as "informed" as you. Some people just needs a good working GPU for some lighter and older titles.

Great budget GPU. At $190, it might even surpass the RX 6600 at the price/performance/wattage (130W). Get a Walmart refurb "gaming PC", drop this in, sell the stock GPU, add RAM/storage if needed, and you're looking at better than XBOX/PS performance at half the price. Now, if you have money, a non-proprietary PSU, don't want to deal with selling off components, etc. - then this is not for you. As others have stated, you can pay a bit more and get something more future proof.
This. Better than console for less money!

It's a new RTX 5050 at 24% off MSRP. For many people upgrading on a budget, it's a good $200 card for 1080P gaming, if your motherboard is PCIe4 or PCIe5. But yes, I would avoid RTX 5050 and RTX 5060 for anyone still on old PCIe3, too much stuttering and really bad 1% lows.
I thought PCI is backwards compatible. I am looking for cheap upgrade on my 10yo setup and it has pcie3. My current 970 kinds reaching absolute limits

It's going in and out of stock. I ordered one a couple of hours ago. It went back out of stock for a while after that, but as of this post it's now showing two left in stock at the deal price.

4690K is so old, it will likely limit any modern graphics card. Avoid RTX 3050. If you can get a 1660 Ti or 1660 Super or RX 6600 or similar for under $100 that might be worth it.
Maybe an arc b570. If you are near a microcenter.
