How much better are the One+ HP tools? I am looking to replace all my old hand me down tools and I've chosen Ryobi as the brand to get into. Is it better to go the HP route?

Its the same for a normal non professional looking to do things around the house until you get to the impact wrenches. I would look at size and weight as most important for most of these tools, a drill or impact driver is useless if it doesnt fit where you need it.

Hmm this seems kind of awesome, or is it just me? I'm not familiar with the Ryobi lineup. Guessing this is not their prime lineup? Still seems like great value

It's good enough because it's a basic drill and a small circular saw which I would say sounds and looks awesome for quick small jobs, I have a lot of their tools and too many chargers they serve homeowner DIY projects very well. I will be eyeing that 4.5" compact circular saw if it goes on sale by itself, will certainly grab one! If you are just starting tools, I'd say go for something like their 199 or 299 sets which is just one shot that comes with almost everything you need and a much better value.

For home use, they are more than adequate. They're not the most powerful but they'll do the job most of the time. This kit would be good to have at home as a general tool kit. Only thing I would recommend upgrading would be the batteries to a higher capacit; and those go on sale all the time too.

I agree with battery comment below, however for most handheld tools 2Ah will be just fine, and won't make the tool too heavy, but if you are going to use stuff like reciprocating tool, large table saw, miter saw, leaf blower etc, 4Ah is the way to go, they have even larger capacities but it just gets too heavy and I don't usually like to keep my batteries plugged in anyway.

Unsure if you mean byitself like tool only or not in a bundle, but that compact 4.5" circular saw is on sale right now for $50 with 2ah battery and charger through today.

I'm tempted to get the saw but I wonder how well it does with sheet goods and longer cuts.

Went down the rabbit hole after seeing so many tools on sale during the Black Friday season. Seems like the way to go is HP with brushless tools if you're more of an advanced enthusiast. And more recently they have HP with the "Edge" moniker. If you aren't working with tools on the daily, then you can get away with the entry level stuff. If you're a pro, then tools common in the trade are Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita whereas it's easier to swap tools and borrow batteries from coworkers at a job site.

Here's a good vid from a Ryobi fanboy:

Really light duty and personally I would suggest skipping this combo unless you live in an apartment.

Sounds about right for what you get but wouldn't call it an amazing deal, the bag is nice though.

I must have missed that, didn't get to my alerts for some reason. I think I'll pick that up, seems much easier to manage one handed and compact for smaller jobs, just need to watch for fingers.

Ah just checked, I don't need the charger or battery, but still a good deal. I couldn't edit my post above for some reason, still watch the fingers.

It's a nice/cute starter kit to gift someone who has no tools to start. Most of the Ryobi tools will do fine on your typical DIY job, and people like to point out the platform has tons of tools which makes picking it not a bad call. If buying for yourself you might have a better experience/value with one of the other 'buy this kit, get a free tool' deals and picking up the smaller hand tools from harbor freight.
