I like the Surface Pro a lot better. Much higher resolution screen, easier SSD upgrade path, and the ability to use it as a tablet.

For most people, Surface Laptop + Android Tablet/iPad is going to be a better experience than just a Surface Pro
While the Surface Pro can be both a laptop and a tablet, for the typical user it is a worse laptop than the Surface Laptop, and its a worse tablet than a Samsung/Google tablet or iPad.

The reason why, is because as a laptop the Surface Laptop has a better keyboard (even better than the $400 surface pro flex) and it can actually sit on your lap, while the surface pro requires use of a kickstand and the keyboard doesnt have the heft to stay put in a lap, or other unstable surface like a bed

Then as a tablet, Windows 11 just is nowhere near as good as android tablet/ipad for touch interface, and there are far less touch apps.

So really, for average person surface laptop + android tablet/ipad is superior
Where the surface pro shines is if you are in need specifically of a windows tablet with pen input, perhaps due to specific windows apps you use that need the pen, and also would appreciate the laptop functionality. It really is not ideal for typical user tablet.

Only problem I have with the Surface Pro is when using it as a laptop on bed, if I turn to the side (which switches it from landscape to portrait orientation), it disconnects my keyboard.

This is a very good explanation. That is exactly my situation. I am typing this on the laptop being discussed. I have used Surface Pros going back years, all the way to the 3. I love the devices and upgrade every couple of years. When looking to replace my 7+ I decided to go with the laptop instead. I have a couple of Ipads and use them for tablet functions. The SP is difficult to carry around while on and needs a flat stable surface to use with the keyboard.

Pretty much hits the nail on the head for me. Windows 11 is just not a very touch-friendly OS. Every time I use my SP as a tablet, I find myself wishing it were just a giant Android phone instead. I'm sure there is a professional use case to opt for the Pro rather than a Laptop -- perhaps something that leans heavily on the pen -- but it's not for me. Definitely moving back to a Surface laptop once my budget allows for it.
