Good deal. There has been a dearth of low-priced productivity desktops. Out of the two, the 8500G config is the better value.

I feel like with the right GPU this could be a great entry-level gaming PC as well. Something like a 3060 for cheap would immediately let you play almost any modern AAA game at 1080p if you don't mind low-mid settings

Kind of have to wholeheartedly disagree here. For $150 hundred dollars more, you get a significantly faster processor, significantly faster graphics chip, and double storage.

this setup is not for "power" users. what you should have said is for $150 less, get a slower processor (5600g?) with a less powerful igpu, and you wouldn't even feel the difference.

Power supply is limited and replacing it is hard

Again disagree. The gpu alone can be the difference between successfully pushing multiple displays with high refresh rates and high pixel density. $599 gets you a 125% faster gpu which makes the difference in being able to play some games decently.

This is definitely one of those scenarios where buy nice or buy twice is gonna bite you as you'll be upgrading the $449 model much sooner.
