That's the nice thing about subwoofers, you can never have "too much" since you can just turn them down.. it's always the case of "not enough".

This is a slim 12 inch powered subwoofer built for tight spaces, with enough output for modest setups and a little extra thump for bookshelves, soundbars, or a bedroom home theater. The low 7 inch height can fit under some regular LoveSac seats, and the compact profile is the main appeal. It is not a high end sub, and the cabinet, driver, and bass quality are described as basic rather than refined. Fit and placement matter, the cable is not included, and the connection options are limited without a sub output.

people trying to add "a little thump" to a modest bedroom or small home theater setup because it's a low-profile, space-saving 12" that should be enough for pairing with bookshelves or a soundbar.
swechsler FranksAndBeans capricio TodayOnly
buyers who need a powered sub that can fit under a regular couch/seat because measurements suggest it should clear under a non-storage seat (about 10" from cushion bottom to floor) even though it's only 7" high.
swechsler
home theater users with an AVR who want to improve bass response because if your receiver has sub EQ it can help address the tendency of cheaper subs not to play very low or very flat.
FranksAndBeans
stereo/2-channel setups where you can route bass to the sub because a stereo receiver or properly adjusted home theater receiver can set speakers to small and feed only bass to the sub for better headroom and dynamics.
hellonwheelz
people pairing with a budget soundbar for a bedroom HT upgrade because commenters specifically recommend pairing it with a $50 Yamaha soundbar refurb and call it a solid upgrade.
capricio

buyers who want to connect using a dedicated subwoofer output from their receiver because this model doesn't have a sub output and is described as direct digital, limiting connection options.
room209
people planning to place it under a storage seat or in a tightly enclosed spot because it likely won't fit under a storage seat and ventilation could be an issue if you put it inside.
swechsler
neighbors/households expecting it to be loud enough to rattle pictures because it should provide some thump but "won't knock the pictures off the wall" in a neighbor's house.
TodayOnly
buyers who need a weather-resistant or outdoor-ready subwoofer because it isn't weather resistant and the setup requires low-level line inputs.
Baron_O_BeefStick
buyers who are sensitive to "cheap/boomy" sound quality compared with a higher-tier sub because one commenter preferred the Monolith M10 V12 and found this one sounded cheap and boomy for their taste.
Brunoslack

The subwoofer can fit under a regular LoveSac seat based on measured clearance and its 7-inch height.
swechsler
The low-profile design targets space-saving setups where a full-size subwoofer takes up too much room.
swechsler
The subwoofer can provide some thump for modest home theater or music listening without extreme volume expectations.
TodayOnly
The unit includes a stereo RCA cable, which can simplify wiring for basic powered-sub connections.
swechsler

The subwoofer does not fit under a storage LoveSac seat, and placing it inside may raise ventilation concerns.
swechsler
The model lacks a sub output and uses direct digital, which limits certain connection options with receivers.
room209
The cabinet construction can feel thin, and the driver may buzz slightly when operating even if the buzz is reportedly inaudible after mounting.
swechsler
A damaged-in-shipping report indicates the unit can arrive very damaged, which may require returning before use.

Common Questions (5)

It should add some thump and work for modest setups like bookshelves or a soundbar, but it is not a high-end sub and will not deliver room-shaking output. AVR sub EQ can help it play flatter if your receiver supports it.
swechsler TodayOnly FranksAndBeans Brunoslack
It should fit under a regular LoveSac seat if there is about 10" from the cushion bottom to the floor, since the sub is 7" high. It will not fit under a storage seat, and placing it inside one may create ventilation issues.
swechsler FranksAndBeans
Yes, it includes a stereo RCA cable, roughly 6 feet long. The cable is easy to miss in the box, so check the packaging before buying one separately.
swechsler swechsler
It does not have a sub output itself, so it needs low-level line inputs from the source or receiver. For speakers that only output full-range signal, a low-pass filter may help, but the connection options are limited.
room209 Baron_O_BeefStick
Yes, it can be added to a stereo receiver setup by setting the main speakers to small and sending bass to the sub, which can improve headroom and dynamic range. It is also described as a good modest upgrade for a bedroom soundbar setup.

Under a regular love sac seat, I measured 10" from bottom of cushion to floor, so it should be OK, since the sub is 7" high.
It won't fit under a storage seat, although you could probably put it inside (but ventilation might be an issue).

Is it decent quality? Not looking for a movie / bass heavy music experience, is this a deal at this price to add a little oomph. Any better bang for the buck alternative sub $200?

I think this is a decent deal, I ordered it because of the low profile (I already have a full size sub but it really takes up way too much space in the room). You might also want to check out the Dayton SUB-xx00 series from Parts Express [parts-express.com]; they are on sale and have gotten good ratings.
This isn't a high-end sub, obviously, at this price (also since it's part of Monoprice's base line rather than their Monolith series), but I think it will be OK.

Bought this 5 months ago and it arrived very damaged so I just sent it back. Was considering rebuying but glad I held off until now as it's $90 less.

Thanks - I got lazy buying this one from the CL a year back for a great price, going to make some room by moving the Monolith M12 next to the couch to the dedicated HT
