Yep. I hate this late stage capitalism crap. We were all so ready to ditch cable for streaming and we're starting to coalesce back in to cable. Only this time the streamers will just happily keep jacking up their price whereas before at least the cable and satellite companies would be the ones to negotiate and fight with the studios. Now there'll only be a few streamers and they'll charge whatever they want because they know you have no choice. It's clear that Netflix has zero interest in theatrical or physical releases so I'm not looking forward to this merger at all.

...and convert them to your own digital copies... Stripping out menus, trailers, etc., if you just want the movie without anything else along for the ride. . Toss them onto a plex server and you have your own Netflix wall of searchable movies. Safely store the original discs for future use if/when needed.

You're absolutely right. I'm not saying they can't do it. If they really wanted to they could do anything they want. And even if they get sued it would result in a crappy class action lawsuit that would just enrich the lawyers pay out a small handout to the small percentage of folks that were effected and actually go through the trouble of getting a claim. And the studio just treats it like a fine. Cost of doing business. So not saying they couldn't. But I'm hoping that backlash and bad sentiment would make them not do that.

Totally agree. But I will buy the occasional digital copy if it's this cheap. Especially for movies I don't really need for my collection.

I can download these for free. I'd rather spend 20 on Blu-ray that I own not some magical license. I suppose for the price it's minimal outlay so hey.

True in a sense although I've seen plenty of media that has failed over time & no longer works as well. For myself I have limited room for physical so that's reserved for certain titles while I try not to pay than $5 per for digital movies which in my mind makes it the cost of a rental which happens to last way longer than a regular rental. In the case of this deal it's 80 cents per movie if you don't have any of them already.

The "you should only own physical" crowd isn't necessarily wrong but my god they're all so insufferable and show up in every thread.
$20 for this is amazing even if a couple of them disappear eventually. I'll get far more than $20 worth of entertainment out of this deal before it's an issue.

Folks...digital purchases do not equal physical discs. Should Amazon or anyone else (like Apple, and it has happened) lose the digital rights for these titles, you lose too. Not to mention the ridiculous compression used to stream a title. Yes, digital is convenient, but you subject yourselves to the whim of the studio contracts and a severely compressed viewing/sound experience. This is the risk and potential loss you take. Google physical media vs streaming... don't take my word. The good news is, if you own the physical disc, you can play it over and over without risk of contract negotiations.

If you really want to see that movie or title, get a Blu-ray player or even better, a 4K Blu-ray player if you have a 4K TV and rent (e.g. GameFly). Many 4K Blu-ray players will upscale an ordinary Blu-ray disc to 4K. And if you buy/rent a 4K title... You will push your TV to new heights.

I do have digital copies I can access because many of my discs come with digital copies. If they disappear because of rights, I can always play the physical media. Digital copies are very convenient when you are away from your physical media... like in a hotel or airport. I also acknowledge that physical media does take up space, but still, viewing experience is much better.
