They're leaving consumer so micron (parent) can reallocate their resources towards data centers, ai, and enterprise.

Because screw the consumer. They don't pay enough. 😭

Gamers Nexus was saying that the way things are going is we will be renting computer power from these data centers. Oh great another subscription service... Big brother is soooo here..
This would be the corporate world's wet dream where consumers pay monthly fees based on how much ram, hard drive space, cpu speed and gpu they want top rent from hardware in the cloud.

With Micron not making Crucial stuff anymore, I wonder how they will handle warranty replacements. Refunds only?
They will probably keep stock on hand to handle warranty claims.

Absolutely not for an internal PS5 drive as this is a 2.5" form factor with a SATA connection. What you'll need is a m.2 form factor and connection. For an external drive, I suppose it should work but the speed of the SATA is vastly slower than what's inside the PS5, theoretically a tenth the speed, perhaps even more. In short, if you must have it for a PS5, just don't go crying about your games loading so slow. Stick Out Tongue

although I thought this would be the likely future outcome, I realized that most games I enjoyed recently were indies that could run on really low-end hardware by todays standards. I kind of feel like triple A games are dead to me, and those are basically the only ones that need the top end hardware that would need to be rented. I played silksong 120hz 2K on my laptop that doesn't even have a good GPU, and it was great

If I'm not wrong, there is a risk that memories will have a price increase in the near future, better stock up on these while I still can, at 50$ per TB it's not that bad as an extra gaming drive

TLC... helll MLC at reasonable prices would be the best.

Unlike SMR vs CMR with SMR just being slower than CMR in HDD. QLC will be slower and degrade faster than TLC on SSD/NVME

They SILENTLY changed components of Crucial P2 from TLC to QLC. Only people who knew we're the ones who noticed worse performance and dug deeper into the specs.. Never forget. I returned this doodoo and went with Hynix P31 instead,

BX is well established as QLC, MX model should be TLC but who knows.

Thinking of using with a jailbroken ps4 and gaming pc secondary storage? It should be good right? Not sure the history of the other comments but guessing just another company selling out and going downhill?

It only works if consumers pay for it - unfortunately, dumb consumers seem to outnumber smart consumers by something insane like 50:1.

You're right that they're greedy and colluding, but like in the above example, consumers are just as guilty. People don't think about the far-reaching impact of their consumption habits, they just see all the funny stupid AI videos they generate, or maybe they buy games made by developers who use AI, maybe they use a search engine like Google which pings Gemini every single time they make query. Maybe they are a programmer who tries to extract "free" (it's not) work from ChatGPT, or maybe you're a lawyer who uses it to make rough drafts for your legal documents.

Yes, it's overwhelming now (and it will be worse, later), but that's why people have to take a step back from rampant consumerism for a moment and think if this is the path they want to go down, because all of the bad starts with a seemingly innocent habit - but it's much easier to stop it in the early stages.
