I think it's just something we all adapt to, when the motor tries to stall as you approach the real limit.
I'd put this $20 towards something better, with micro-cut.
Another important feature for me is the ability for the shredder to handle credit cards. This has that at least.
Admittedly, I do not have any great alternative deal suggestions for now, other than setting up a deal alert. So if you are in dire need, this can get you by at a snail's pace.
I checked Costco, Sam's, WM, & AMZ.
If you need one now, and want to go with micro-cut, this one on WM is not a bad sale price for a basic, starter for $47 (marked down from $75). I'd expect a 4-sheet true capacity.
I always divide the advertised capacity by 2.

I'd prefer this one from Sam's Club ($70), which advertises 12-sheet capacity, handles credit cards and CDs:

I know some will think..."But what do you expect for $20?"
I'd probably wait for a deal on a micro-cut with at least 12-sheet advertised capacity, or go with Sam's, Costco for their "better than most" return policies.

But I would tend to agree with others that 6-sheet capacity seems small such that I would worry the motor will die when you inadvertently feed it too many sheets that ONE time. "3 minute continuous runtime" is not as long as you'd think it would be.
put that 20 towards something better.
The 6 page rating is probably derived on rice thin paper and size of 6"x6".
Unless you literally shred 4 pages a week, or don't have anything better to do with your time - stay away.

I'll just do 3-page shredding at a time and maybe x3 at the most. For others, are you shredding a whole box, year worth of top secret documents?!!
