Samsung's S90F OLED is drawing attention as a bright, colorful QD OLED TV that stands out for gaming, upscaling, and strong SDR and HDR performance. The 77 inch model is repeatedly described as the latest model year at a standout price, with some checkout totals landing around $1,530 before tax and lower after stacked discounts. Main tradeoffs are Dolby Vision support, Samsung's DTS and app quirks, and return or warranty hassles that can erase some of the savings.
Shoppers comparing premium 77-inch OLEDs, because the 77-inch model is QD-OLED and is repeatedly described as a strong value versus higher-priced alternatives.
Viewers prioritizing vivid color and strong upscaling on non-4K content, because Samsung is described as more accurate, brighter, and better at upscaling.
Home theater setups that need DTS passthrough through the TV, because DTS support is missing and may require an external audio extractor or receiver upgrade.
Buyers who may need an easy return path, because Samsung returns can be a hassle and one reported case involved a cracked screen and a difficult refund process.
It can work on some EPP accounts and on the 77-inch model, but it is reported as invalid on Education and first-responder accounts. Some shoppers also found the code removed a previously selected offer instead of lowering the total.
Watch the Samsung Vision AI video while signed in, then add the TV to cart; the discount can appear automatically without a separate code. Clearing cookies and using the TV & AV menu path reportedly helps when the offer does not show up.
The S90F is reported to be far brighter in Game Mode, more colorful, and better at handling direct reflections, while the C5 has Dolby Vision and can keep blacks darker in bright rooms. For Xbox and Dolby Vision content, the C5 has a slight edge; for brightness and QD-OLED color, the S90F does.
It does not support Dolby Vision, and DTS passthrough is also reported as unsupported. That means some setups may need an Apple TV, Nvidia Shield, or an external audio extractor/splitter for full media compatibility.
The LG C5 OLED and the Samsung S90F OLED trade blows. They're about equally as bright in most HDR content, although the S90F is far brighter in Game Mode. In SDR, however, the C5 is way brighter. The S90F does handle direct reflections better, but the C5's black levels barely raise in bright environments, while the S90F's blacks become charcoal gray in the same context. The S90F's QD-OLED panel is far more colorful than the C5's WOLED panel, which is expected. They're about equally as good for gaming, although the C5's Dolby Vision support does give it the slight edge for Xbox gamers.
The nits would say the LG g5 is brighter unless it's in game mode.
Wow. The S90F is so bright in SDR that I have it turned to about 50%-- and I have it in a bright room. the take away here is that both screens are bright enough. In fact, I have nearly 90 days to decide whether to return my S90F for the C5--- I might. So far, no complaints
Hey how did you get the price down to 1458? The lowest I'm getting is $1,619 and they won't give me anything else via chat
go to samsung.com and hover your mouse over TV & AV at the top. it will bring sort of a dropdown and then click on one of the items at the right called SAMSUNG VISION AI (looks like top left at the right side of the menu. watch the video which will give you 10% off. after you watch the video go to OLED and put the TV in the cart. the price will be 1457.
just got the 77in LG C5 and installed it. holy moly it is a big tv. kind of wobbly on the stand so I might go ahead and mount it on the wall.
I think I will go pick this up from bestbuy and install side by side and play the same content to see how they look before I make my choice of which one to keep. I have 15 days to return the samsung to best buy and until january 15th to return the LG.
I am getting an LG C5 77in for $1370 after capone cashback (will have to buy HD or Lowes giftcards).
my conundrum is which to keep. tried the cancellation trick, and Sammy is not willing to discount anything. seems the LG has better upscalling, but not as eye candy with the colors. I might have to take both out and put them side by side and see which ones I like better with the same content.
I saw a lot cancelled orders on the Q990D as well. I wonder wtf is going on at Samsung.com. I wonder if they are out of stock on stuff or just rethinking their discounts lol
I have the 77in S90F still waiting to be picked up from bestbuy. $1438
Still debating if I should pick it up or keep the LG I got for $1370.
Went to BestBuy today to look at them as they were a bit side by side (obviously not the same content). The place is fairly lit, and did not seem the black on the S90F is washed in a well lit room (purple gray). It looked pretty black to me, but the people in the videos did look a bit cartoonish or had the soap opera effect. maybe because of the oversaturation Smasung does. I might keep the LG and let the Sammy pickup expire especially since it ends up cheaper.

I still don't know how you got the code to work, I've tried so many times with no luck. They do have a promotion right now giving you a free 43" tv with purchases of the 77in s90f. So i have It in my cart for $1619 plus the free tv i could probably sell for $200. Haven't pulled the trigger just yet

There is no code. You have to watch the video then you put the tv in the cart along with whatever other codes and it should give you 10% off. I would say clear the cookies, then sign on, watch the video and then add the thing in cart. This is the direct link video that you need to watch: https://www.samsung.com/us/tvs/vision-ai-tv/

I do have that 10% discount which made the price $1619. The code that isn't working for me is 25SOPDEC10. When i chat with customer service they say it's not valid on this tv. I'm logged on using my first responder account/discount.
They are giving me a free 43" tv that i can probably flip for $200. So i can look at It like 1419, i guess

Maybe that is what this is. I was reading the comments in some of the Samsung deal forums that this 25SOPDEC10 code only works with EPP (Employee Pricing) and not Education, so it might not apply to first responders either.
