This is a great drone camera for the right person and right situation. I think Hoverair doesn't even consider it a drone. More like a self flying camera. I agree with this label. I also have a DJI Mini 4 Pro, but I use this Pro Max when I need to get a quick shot without having to spend too much time setting it up like the 4 Pro. At $700 with just the camera and 1 battery when it first came out, I couldn't justify buying it. But at $400 for a bundle that also includes 2 batteries, a charging hub, and a case, I'm willing to take the plunge. It's not for you if you're a pro or drone enthusiast who wants more control of the drone. But if you're just a casual vlogger, content creator, or family vacationer then the Pro Max is great. I only use the pre-set AI modes/Quickshots for those situations. If I need more control and/or range & distance, I'll use the Pro 4. The Pro Max is smaller and a lot more discreet to fly than the Pro 4. Can also shoot in real 8K, unlike the 360 cameras where 8K becomes 2.7K after post (if 8K matters to you). I just don't know how durable and reliable it is because I've only had it for about a month. I have another 2 months to put it to the test (Costco has 90-day return policy).

Tempting at this price. I had one that i returned because it kept crashing into trees when i took it mountain biking. It took the enjoyment out of biking to constantly have to stop and find the lost drone.
Try the Neo 2. I sometimes forget it's there. That's how good it is at following me around. Even biking through trails at high speeds, it doesn't miss a beat. Goes around obstacles better than any drone I've ever seen.

This $399 price makes me sick to my stomach, I got this from Costco for $699.99 from a June Slickdeal. The HoverAir sticks to me like glue, unlike my DJI Mini 3 Pro which loses track often. I've crashed it into branches and it's fallen on dirt trails and still worked great.

Anyhow, Hoverair must be hurting with the DJI Neo 2 release and its super low price point. Even I ordered one from that Slickdeal a few days ago.

hmm...in the end I saw 1 neo 2 comeback in stock and i bought it (i guess the dji ban played a factor in me buying it too) This pro max has bigger sensor & hlg hdr which neo 2 doesn't. But neo 2 seems to have better tracking. $140 difference and it has extra batteries. I got an air 3 so I guess I got the best photo & video checked already. I really just want a cheap drone that follows. But I can see myself using it as a video, photo drone too. Last time I traveled in asia, I registered to fly in 1st country and then I didn't register in 2nd country, japan (also because I got too much gear already and bringing an air 3 size drone was too much). I guess for my use case, neo 2 is a better choice even though the videos will be inferior but good enough when I don't want to bring a bigger drone. Neo 2 is also cheaper (although no dji warranty just my personal item insurance)...and my costco membership expired...

yeah, i was very tempted when it dropped to 259, but can't justify getting another drone on top of neo 1, especially i have to buy new batteries. now it's 439 drone only. neo 1 is a much better deal at this time. 279 with drone, 3 battery and a controller.

So no regret on owning the drone, only regret on how much more you paid?
I have never owned a drone but curious if this one is good for these uses:
-Just for fun. Can kids fly this?
-Investigating if that's a hole in the soffit for mice, or just moss that needs cleaning, etc.
-Follow me or kids on bikes, 4 wheelers, sleds, etc.
-Maybe terrorize some wasp nests in a tough spot

Yes, easy for kids and more of a selfie or follow-me drone, I can have it track me without any controller hanging on my handlebars like the traditional method with the traditional DJI drones. Very limited via controller doing landscapes, however, due to range and not being able to fly too far whereas the DJI drones have a range in miles rather than feet for selfie drones.

I just bought this at Costco. What other accessories should I get? Are the beacon or joystick necessary?

I'll wait until the after new years discount or Costco clearances them out. They had entire pallet of them right by the front door last week so they must not be selling well.
