Speaking from personal ownership

This is a great unit
Probably more suited to a more medium space

I suggest checking out the owner's forum on AVS. Many of them have owned this AVR since its introduction in 2021
There are lot of tips and tricks that can be learned from those that have actually owned the unit for years
There is a high satisfaction from what I have read

I was certainly satisfied with my unit when I owned it

I was trying to find a reason to avoid buying the RZ70 on E Expo for $1795 since it's totally unnecessary for my setup. This literally couldn't have come at a better time for me. Thanks for posting!!!

I own this receiver and have been using it for roughly a year.

This review NAILS it. Power limiting is still an issue. I heard the difference during ANY scenes in movies that remotely pushed my speakers. It comes off kind of "muddy". Keep this in mind if you have decent speakers you want to drive, I have SVS Prime Towers and a 5.2.4 speaker setup

Keep in mind, when they say 120 watts @ 8 Ohms that's STEREO driven, it gets way worse in a setup like mine.

https://www.audiosciencereview.co...avr.30842/

I still bought it knowing all of this because I paired this with an Emotiva 3 channel amp for the front channels. It was cheaper to do it this way than the RZ70 (which also has power limit issues) and had pre-out for the amp.

SUPER happy with this setup, it sounds amazing, and is consistent now.
I used to own the RZ50 and never had an issue. Though I was powering book shelf speakers with it

if you are using Audio Science review as litmus test, I think you will find issues with about any AVR under $1500 ish street price or so that make it fail their testing

I dont know your set up or the way in which you listen

But having owned the Pioneer LX805 and now the Integra 8.4, my impression is that they will do some serious heavy lifting as far as AVR's go
They both share the same amp/power supply with the Onkyo RZ70

How many movies is produced in 9.2 ?, please give names of those movies. Thank you.
I somewhat agree with what I think the point you are trying to make it

Personally, I dont like room correction engaged and sound matrixed to multiple channels for 2 channel audio

But some people will run room correction and have 2 channel music matrixed to 9 or 11 etc channels

Not my cup and it has become important to me when I am considering a piece, especially for my main listening environment

I bought an RZ50 when it first came out. I wanted it for a switcher for Xbox, PS5, Apple TV and 4K Blu-ray player. Atmos sound support was a biggie for gaming and media. It works well with hdmi earc and has a turntable input as well as a direct audio mode that works similar to what they used to call pure audio mode. Stereo music listening, like from a turntable. It's sits big and deep on an audio shelf. So check where you're gonna put this against its measurements. It doesn't get red hot, but it does need air. The menu system is typical Onkyo, clunky but functional via their app or TV menu via HDMI connection. It has Drac, but I never used it to setup my speakers. I just use the standard Onkyo speaker setup. My RZ50 is a workhorse. I use it every day. A great AV receiver. It's been out for at least two years. About every five to ten years hdmi specs change on newer devices and then the receiver struggles. That is what happened with my previous Onkyo RZ Receiver.

The RZ50 has been around since 2021.

Why don't you use Dirac? It's far better than the onboard AccuEQ!

$900 just for a slightly better sound than a $100 soundbar is ludicrous.

I was wondering if the power saver issues of this receiver have been fixed? I read a post that said a firmware update fixed it going into protection mode prematurely. Can anyone verify that>

The clone Pioneer 505 has been re-submitted for review at ASR specifically because of the updated firmware. An RZ30 was also submitted to Amir for review about a month ago.

We just have to be patient for the reviews to come out.

That's just for the AVR!!!
You still have the "$1500" speakers, "$500+ subwoofer", then all the time and effort to make it work properly!

All for just a "5%" difference!!!
People fall for all these marketing "pitches" & just get "fleeced"...!!!
Feel so sorry for them!

What are your guy's thoughts on RZ50 vs X3800H to drive 4 ohm (KEF) speakers?

My vote would be for the 3800 but you should audition both if you can!

This has been out since 2021 and vast majority of owners stated they had no issue with that.

Just another example of how measurements don't equate to good/bad sound imo.

There is a return window for a reason.
