Community Reviews

ASUS ROG Xbox Ally is a Windows handheld that appeals most for portable PC gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere titles, with an Xbox controller style grip and a 7 inch 1080p 120 hertz screen. The community also notes that Steam can run on it, and Game Pass games can be played offline after an online launch or with offline permissions enabled. The main drawback is game support, since it does not play all Xbox games and several big releases are not available unless they are on PC or Game Pass. Performance is also described as modest for the price, making it a better fit for lighter use than for chasing the biggest games.

nobody knows the sales numbers for any of the PC handhelds really
You can infer based on it being out of stock and/or back ordered consistently even after release.

Was going to get this but yeah doesn't play Xbox games so what's the use for travel as I am already using the Xbox Series S with attached G-Story portable monitor so this is good enough for me.

Lot of reviews were disappointed with the lack of game support. Doesn't play a lot of the big name games like Battlefield, Borderlands 4, etc etc. It's a very limited library, and requires a subscription to Game Pass for those games if you don't own them already.

Estimated 6 million. 4 million are supposedly Steam Decks.

It plays any XBox Play Anywhere game and some games like Black Myth Wukong can be cloud streamed if you have Gamepass

FYI, Microsoft changed their policy. No offline play for most games unless you own the game even with game pass ultimate. You can run steam on this device.

Is the upgraded ROG Xbox one any good specs wise?
TBH this appeals to me because I can take my Xbox library on the go and have a portable pc and access to all the other pc games. Plus the Xbox controller handles will make it an easy switch.
Open to alternatives, especially at this price point.
The higher end XBox Ally X has very good specsl The only exception is that some people prefer a larger screen.

I'm in the market for a handheld focused on the Xbox ecosystem, so this comment concerned me but also seemed questionable. So I actually did the research in case anyone else comes to read this down the road.

Per ROG's website [Per ROG%27s website, it is possible to play Game Pass games offline, even if you do not own a full copy of them.https], it is possible to play Game Pass games offline, even if you do not own a full copy of them. As long as you've launched the game while online once in the last 14 days, you should be good to go. You can also enable more permanent offline permissions by going to settings and enabling Offline Permissions (only available on one device per account at a time). The Xbox page [xbox.com] suggests that the designation is mandatory for offline play. Regardless, very doable assuming this is the only device where you plan to play offline.

Walmart and BestBuy also have it for $499 with earlier shipping. Amazon showing delivery December 22 - January 5, so just on the cusp for Xmas.

that's quite decent...thanks for the info...
for what you're getting, the regular one is overpriced...maybe a good sale on the more expensive one that actually offers you something better...I don't really care for game pass, their setup situation when i tried them on windows was quite annoying

Don't bother even at this price. I got a 2TB Rog Ally Z1E in mint condition for $350 on market place. The Z1E is way faster. This is closer to the steamdeck OLEDs power.

The move for Handhelds this season was the Best Buy Legion Go S Black Friday deal + the PayPal Pay N Four 20% back. At this point wait for a refurbished Steam Deck OLED, or another deal. I picked up mine 1 TB OLED for $519. I did end up returning it due to getting an open box Z1E Go S for $511+ the PayPal offer. The base Rog Ally X slots in below the LCD Steam Deck.

The Go S Z1E was the best deal for sure....a couple of things though:

1. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get a refurbished SD OLED. I wouldn't wait for that.
2. I think that you meant the ROG Ally XBox slots below the Steam Deck. The Ally X is a bit above the Deck.
