The first season of the show was amazing. I have no doubt that the rest of the seasons would have also been great.

For those who don't know, this show was planned to run for four or five seasons. HBO told them halfway through the second season's filming that the show was going to be canceled. The show runners made a decision to try to wrap up the history of Rome in that short time.

Didn't know that bit about the show. Shame.

I absolutely love Roman history, but the show was like a graphic novel. I think I made it 3 episodes into it. My least favorite HBO series that I can remember, and I watched Arli$$...

Bring on the downvotes, I just didn't want passersby to think this was an echo chamber. Try before you buy. Maybe you'll love it, maybe not.

Really am waiting for a 4K remaster. Don't get me wrong, this is definitely worth the money. However its just a cardboard box that is housing the regular season one and two dvd boxes in it.
Based on the hidefdigest review, the image quality is kinda grainy and not very good in dark scenes. It was recorded on film, so I was really hoping that HBO/Warner Bros would be going back and improving the picture quality and re-doing the audio.

with Netflix buying WB Studios/HBO I don't think they will be focusing on physical media

A friend (not Mary Beard) who teaches ancient history at a private school said this series was very well produced depicting Roman life.
