Yes but if you write on it with a ballpoint pen and single sheets it will leave indentations almost for sure. For PC and similar or use a desk blotter on it, its fine.

Answer is YES with some caveats. Soft wood is great for staining and is quite less expensive than hardwoods, but using it on a high traffic staircase can lead to it degrading much faster than a hardwood. You may be sanding and refinishing far more often than a hardwood.

I agree its not a great Slickdeal. The 30 inch width is what makes it interesting because that is not typical. You normally would shop a hardwood and often butcher block types to go past 24" depths.

I'd much prefer softwood to hardwood for steps.I guess I care more about my family's comfort than I care about a few extra minutes sanding and refinishing every couple months. Besides, this price is a steal.
