it's utility. people can just go on hike, run, walk, etc without carrying their phone and still be connected to the world in case someone wants to reach out. usually there is additional $10pm charge to avail this service. or you can continue using wifi only and never take advantage of cellular.

This Series 11 GPS deal stands out as a strong price on Apple's current aluminum watch, especially for shoppers who want the standard phone companion experience. The 42 millimeter and 46 millimeter sizes are worth trying on in person, and the included Walmart band is a plain silicone strap rather than an Apple band choice. Cellular adds the ability to leave the phone behind for calls, texts, GPS, and fall detection, but it brings an extra monthly service fee and battery tradeoffs. A solid option if you want the newest model without paying full retail.

Using cellular must be taking a hit on a battery life of already limited capacity of less than 24hrs. Is it still a viable utility? I have only used gps models so far and debating getting cellular this time, but can't quite decide due to poor battery life on these watches.

Apple watches are an extension to the phone. As long as I get a day battery life, I'd live with it. There are ultras which have bigger battery and there are Garmin which have weeks of battery life.

Bought the same version watch on Amazon Nov 13 as I wasn't sure the rose color would be available later or get it in time...went to Amazon to return it and got to the final page and they offered me a $77 refund which made the price almost the same...so thank you!

I hadn't thought of that at all. Hard for me to imagine doing those things with a small screen, but I guess they made it work.
If you have wifi, you can also do all those things without cellular.

I don't think I've ever seen $100 off a current Apple Watch model so soon after it was released.

On cell phones in the U.S., even a deactivated model can call 9-1-1. Does it work that way on the cellular Apple Watch, or does that rule not apply to wristwatches?

Is there a point to getting the gps cellular model if you don't plan on getting a cell plan for it? What can you do with a watch cell plan anyway? Reply to iMessages?
I got one for my mom so fall detection will work if she doesn't have her phone with her. At $7 a month for a cell plan, I feel better that she has some tool to help if she needs it.

Don't buy from Walmart! If the delivery guy steals it, they won't refund you! It just happened to me! OnTrac stole two Apple Watches and Walmart didn't; refund the money. I lost the watches and my money too!
