Oddly enough, the Ryzen 8745HX is essentially a desktop Ryzen 7700X on a laptop/BGA package. Basically the opposite of the 8700G. Full desktop level 3 cache (32MB, vs 16MB on the mobile chips) and the same 2CU integrated graphics as the desktop parts. It should outperform the 8700G builds that have shown up here recently. (Obviously, clock speed and TDP are lower, but if it's adequately cooled it shouldn't be much slower than the 7700x)
FWIW, laptop SODIMMs are significantly cheaper than desktop DIMMs right now (~$500 for 2x32GB DDR5 vs ~$900) so this might be a sneaky bargain for anyone who needs more RAM than they can find in prebuilt configs and can't wait until prices normalize.

You are basically buying a laptop as a tower, but with discrete GPU. I think to sell it as "upgradeable" is a bit over the top if not deceiving marketing... yeah you can upgrade laptops too, good luck!

Also a HP Omen 16L, 8700F model with 5060 from Costco for around $900. but with 32GB. Was thinking seriously about it... but bad heat issues with the 8700 CPUs lacking a soldered IHS is troubling. Looks like the 8745HX is oddly a laptop designed chip instead? Probably better cooling overall, but also only 16GB... Frown Too many options to consider.

I think I have yet to see just about any pre-built get generally positive reviews and likes around here. This site is to help people find bargains and yet when bargains (for various reasons) for computers are listed, they get downvoted very regularly.

Because most of the prebuilts here are not slick deals. For example, the best deals on prebuilts was a month ago with the CyberPower w/ 7800XT or the Acer Predator Refurbs with 4070 Ti/Super. None of the deals recently have come close to touching those since they all come with 5060's and rarely 5060 Tis. Not only that, but they usually skimp on SSD or RAM now that those parts are a more valuable commodity. The most recent slick deal is the Alienware prebuilt with 5080 for around $1700. Low end is probably still best with a custom PC using a G-series CPU or something like an Arc B580/used 3070/5050
