The sodimm ram sticks trip me out, especially seeing it on an mATX board

Oddly enough, the Ryzen 8745HX is essentially a desktop Ryzen 7700X on a laptop/BGA package. Basically the opposite of the 8700G. Full desktop level 3 cache (32MB, vs 16MB on the mobile chips) and the same 2CU integrated graphics as the desktop parts. It should outperform the 8700G builds that have shown up here recently. (Obviously, clock speed and TDP are lower, but if it's adequately cooled it shouldn't be much slower than the 7700x)
FWIW, laptop SODIMMs are significantly cheaper than desktop DIMMs right now (~$500 for 2x32GB DDR5 vs ~$900) so this might be a sneaky bargain for anyone who needs more RAM than they can find in prebuilt configs and can't wait until prices normalize.

You are basically buying a laptop as a tower, but with discrete GPU. I think to sell it as "upgradeable" is a bit over the top if not deceiving marketing... yeah you can upgrade laptops too, good luck!

If you care, this system is listed as supporting Copilot and not Copilot+, apparently due to a low TPU number.
That's a benefit. Less ai the better

One of the gamers said, it would be better to spend more and get more. If you are a serious gamer or even think you are going to be, I think that advice is very good. For myself, just being an office user with a desire to drive multiple monitors, the system would be fine.

Be careful, that's not a review, but a sponsered showcase. In the first minute the host quickly says the video is a partnership with Lenovo and AMD. It may sound like a pedantic distinction, and it doesn't mean there isn't useful info in the video, but it's really important to be conscious of the difference, especially if you're pointing others to that content

A few comparisons are being made with 8700G prebuilts, which is very valid.

Interestingly, the 8745HX and 8700G perform extremely similar in Passmark. 32337 for the 8745HX, 31667 for the 8700G. The 32MB of L3 Cache with the 8745HX may give it an edge in games over the 16MB on the 8700G. Hard to say, since benchmarks aren't super common for this CPU.

Keep in mind, the 8745HX is a mobile chip, so it's going to be integrated onto the board.

CPU is the most interesting (and questionable) part of this build.
Ryzen 7 8745HX is an HX-class laptop chip dropped into a desktop chassis. Performance-wise it's solid, 8 cores / 16 threads, Zen 4, good boost clocks, so you're roughly in Ryzen 7 7700 territory for gaming and everyday workloads.
That said, it's an unusual choice for a desktop. HX CPUs are designed for mobile platforms, meaning limited upgrade path, OEM-only motherboard, and power/thermals tuned more like a laptop than a traditional desktop CPU. You're basically buying a "desktop-shaped laptop" under the hood.
Bottom line: Not a bad CPU at all, but definitely an odd one. Fine if you don't care about future CPU upgrades.
