This seems super not legal in California. I guess maybe since it is considered promotional credit. Though I think they would have to give you the $50 you paid without expiration

I've used them a few times before. What I do is if you have credit that is expiring soon, and you have a good idea what countries you plan on visiting in the future, you can use your remaining credits to buy those esims. The esims will remain unactivated without expiration until you decide to activate them.
