This seems super not legal in California. I guess maybe since it is considered promotional credit. Though I think they would have to give you the $50 you paid without expiration

I've used them a few times before. What I do is if you have credit that is expiring soon, and you have a good idea what countries you plan on visiting in the future, you can use your remaining credits to buy those esims. The esims will remain unactivated without expiration until you decide to activate them.

I have been using a competitor, Airalo, for many years. Their prices are usually pretty low, and don't require pre-buying credit that expires.

Solid deal if you already have travel plans lined up for next 12 months and would need a lot of data. Used them and other similar services extensively last few years never issues. Best to get individual rates and refer friends if they ask for some small credits can add up too in some cheap service countries.

Been doing this stacksocial/alosim deal for several years now. Usually get them for about 17-20 for $50 credit. There's a code rev31 that give 31% off that's valid for the $50 dollar credit amount if you don't need to buy $150 credit. Never used airalo but prediscount their esim rates are comparable so unless you can buy airalo credits at a significant discount the alosim deal is much better.

Thank you for these details, have used ubigi in Japan and Europe with no issues, but will check how many pennies I can save with this one in case I do travel.

😀 nowadays, many phones have e-sim support, even budget phones. It's much cheaper to buy a local plan rather than these.

I lost some credit because of this but I had only bought about $50 in credits, because I accidentally linked the code too early. No way I would risk with so much.
Also, if I recall correctly the eSim doesn't transfer to a new phone.

Another vote for Airalo they're one of the largest, I've used them successfully in Mexico and Canada. Remember to activate your eSim before leaving your home country. Other major eSim providers are Holafly, Saily, etc.

If I travel four countries back to back and wanting unlimited data, would this suffice? hmm

Not terrible if you know where you're going and think you'll need all the data. The fees are a terrible data/price ratio compared to some local SIMs, but it might be useful if you're going lots of places. Example: Lyca in the UK is $7 for 30GB with 30 days service, and you can take that data anywhere in the EU. It also includes free unlimted SMS and UK calls, and 100 minutes of UK->Intl calls. aloSIM is $32 for 20GB/30 days, and that doesn't include the EU or sms/voice (useful if you have an emergency and whatsapp won't connect; ask me how I know). EU region is $36/10GB/30 days from alosim.

Another head's up: make sure your phone is unlocked. Verizon should unlock your phone automatically after 60 days, but T-mo only unlocks your phone on request, a minimum of 40 days after purchase, and only if your phone is fully paid off. And, since they've changed their policy, if you pay off your phone early, you lose all your bill credits. Also note that, at least for T-mo, you cannot unlock only the second eSIM slot (i.e. unlock early) and keep the T-mo eSim in slot one. For foreign travel, the uncarrier is unfriendly.
