Nice laptop. It has a MIL-SPEC chassis, Thunderbolt 4, nice battery, and Windows Hello.

Needs another 16GB of RAM though. That's costly these days. That HP Omen floating around might be a better bet.

Depending on your use case, I wouldn't say it "NEEDS" another 16GB, but if you needed it, it's a +/- $160 upgrade. Love the 5070 card, faster CPU, and way more durable at mil-spec grade vs. the Omen IMO. It's a pretty solid deal. I just returned the $999.99 deal on the Legion 5 at Walmart (now out of stock) for this one. A bit heavier, but also an inch larger screen (not OLED, which I don't care about) and a bigger battery.

Can this run games at 1440P…plan on hooking up to an external monitor or would this laptop be better?

Either could run 1440p on an external. I'd personally go with the Katana for the extra storage. Both laptops are spec'd the same pretty much.
Edited because the specs on the walmart pages seem to mismatch. Looked like the TUF only had 512GB on the spec page, but the description says it's 1TB.

Mine arrives tomorrow, so I will confirm whether it's 1TB (which it better be!). I'd much rather have Asus over MSI either way.

This are not true mil-spec, my LCD cover that holds the screen to the hinges broke, the hinges are too small and all held together with plastic brackets. You can search and see tons of reports of this issue, eBay is flooded with parts because of this. The laptop sits on a desk and I just opened an closed it. TUF laptop as just as good as all the other cheap gaming laptops like HP Vitus, and Acer Nitro, which I think is better.

Are you suggesting that the Lenovo 5 Legion OLED is more durable than this laptop?

There is no RTX-5070 with 8GB VRAM; it is 12GB. Clearly, that Walmart spec sheet has issues. As I said, I will confirm this all tomorrow when received.
What? That is totally inaccurate. All the 5070 mobile chips have 8 GB of RAM. The 5070 ti is the one with 12 GB of RAM.

Agree on 16gb of ram but I wouldn't have traded in the legion for this

No, there is no mobile rtx with anything other than 8 GB of ram. That being said 8gb is okay since this is 2.5k and not qhd+
