Since Apple is the vendor, I have less worries than if it was coming from an unknown retailer.

I have purchased several thousand $$$ TVs from Amazon years ago. Right now I don't trust them for any electronics over $50...Dude is right, they changed return policies, customer support etc. it's not worth the hustle to buy big ticket items from them.

Exactly same for me! I bought my first TV ~15 years ago (I think for over $2000) from Amazon. At that time, I wouldn't think twice about buying big ticket items from Amazon. Now, the only electronics I buy from Amazon are chargers, cables, batteries, etc. Any TV, laptop, phone or anything of significant value is from Costco/Best Buy/Target. An example of the hassle I had - In one of the sales, I bought an Apple iPhone case (Amazon was the shipper/seller). The case arrived with the box already open and it was clear the case had been used. I returned it, but it took well over a month and multiple chat/phone conversations to get the refund. Apparently, Apple products go through a more stringent return process.

At this price not sure why one wouldn't get a Macbook Air. Understand a smaller form factor (slightly) but you can do so much more with the Air...

True. Buying expensive electronics from amazon is a gamble to say the least.
They kept sending me expensive lens ($1600) 3 times all open boxes and 1 of them looked like it went through a war. I kept returning them and got a warning that my account my be blocked due excessive number of returns even though i spoke with customer service about my concerns. Screw them.

A few years back, Amazon sent me several used iPhones that were advertised as new. They were being sold by one of the Tracfone companies. Tracfone apparently reapplied the plastic wrap to the boxes, and claimed they were new. I had no problem returning them.
I assume this would be harder to try to pull off today, since Apple now uses paper tabs to seal boxes, not plastic wrap. It should be very obvious that a box has been opened.
There would be no reason to buy from Amazon at this price anyway. Anyone can get this price on the Apple Education store website.
I wouldn't put too much faith in those seals:

That is not good news about the seals being available online. I guess the best method to confirm whether an Apple products is new is to lookup the warranty status using the serial number, which is on the outside of the box. I did this on the iPhones I received from Amazon, and did not even have to open them to know they were used, not new as advertised. The serial number/warranty status showed the phones had been activated and the warranty had begun to run months earlier.

I have both. The IPad ProM4 11 inch and the current MacAir 13.

You can do more with the MacAir but the ease of use with the IPad Pro.
I'm glad I have both.

My wife will not use the iPad. Hates it. She has the 15 inch MacAir. Between the MacAir and her IPhone Air she gets everything done,

There are many times I need to go to the Mac when the IPad doesn't give me what.

I ordered an open box 13" for $936. Hope it truly is in excellent condition. The last time I ordered one of these 'excellent condition' return items, the TV was missing the box, power cord, remote and legs.
