Same price at Ace Hardware and Lowe's but you also get a 2Ah battery and charger. Model number seems slightly different but they all are Atomic 20v brushless.

This model is a slightly newer version and is smaller or shorter than the combo set you mentioned. They are both good brushless impacts, just the 850 model is shorter by about an inch, so better in tight spaces. Most people would be better off buying the set from ACE. Lowe's doesn't sell the Atomic version; they have some others, though.

This is very misleading. This 1st gen (DCF809) atomic impact driver is much different than the 2nd gen (DCF850). Lowe's doesn't have atomic, in this case I think you're talking about DCF840, which I would consider in the middle of the two atomic drivers in performance.
The 2nd gen is much better/faster/stronger and can be seen used side by side with XR tools which have been always been the high end of Dewalt tools.
2nd gen has a physical speed switch vs only the variable trigger, 2nd gen is much shorter/stubby, and (subjective) the motor ramp up is quicker/snappier.
For raw numbers you have:
DCF809...........DCF840.........DCF850
2800 RPM.......3200 RPM......3250 RPM
3200 IPM.........4200 IPM.......3800 IPM
1700 in-lbs.......1700 in-lbs.....1825 in-lbs
The 2nd gen (DCF850, the one listed here) is worth about $100, the 1st gen (DCF809, Ace for same price in a kit) ADN DCF840 are worth around $70 as bare tool. None are necessarily bad, but the 2nd gen is better than 1st gen in nearly every way. The DCF840 with it's higher IPM could be better if you're only driving small-medium screws all the time, but the DCF850 wouldn't be far behind and will catch up when fasteners get bigger and tougher.

The whole point of the DCF850 existing is that it's their smallest. The one from Lowe's is not. DCF860 is smaller and more powerful than that one and DCF850 matches the specs of their previous top dog while being the smallest. Anything else is just an older, bigger, model.
Bomgaars has DCF850P1 for $99 (comes with charger and 5ah battery). I have had luck getting HomeDepot to price match Bomgaars in the past. I got the DCF850P1 for $89 earlier this year.
