The cheapies are going to typically have 300-500 lumens (or less actual output) vs 1600 for this one. Found a review that showed lumen rating was fairly accurate for this one.
It's also 4k capable whereas a cheapie might advertise 4k input. Many (most?) 4k projectors use "pixel shift" technology to achieve the 4k, but I guess it works surprisingly well.

Having bought a cheapie that I loved (400ish lumen xgimi elfin flip) - I'm now looking for a brighter "real" projector. 400 lumens only looks good in complete darkness. 1600 is a little borderline, so I'm looking for 2400 minimum. I might get a used 1080p epson, benq, or optoma around 3500 lumens to cover all light situations. Hopefully people upgrade this Christmas so I can get a good deal on their old stuff.

Everyone said not to buy the cheapie and they were mostly right, though I didn't know how awesome the projector experience would be until I used it!

Nice deal, not great for gaming or if you dont have a tight light control in the room, but overall really nice for movies if you have a nice and dark room.

I'd stay away from optoma, I've had issues with two different ones. Never will buy one again.

I would buy a 1080p projector in the same price range before this. Resolution is seriously the last thing you notice... but the easiest to market. Contrast matters, and color - notoriously easy to lie about and hard to market.

Check RTINGS.
I went from a legit/bright business projector to a 3LCD Epson Cinema with a Dynamic Iris and it was/is unreal 6+ years later. I've replaced everything in the theater in that time, but never felt the need to touch the projector
