As someone who recently finally gave in and bought the Klein version (less than $20 as noted above) after using "regular" wire strippers for 40+ years, I disagree. The benefit of not having to apply excess tension to the wire being stripped is invaluable. There are countless wire-stripping applications that are just not conducive to yanking on the wire to remove the jacket. The Klein stripper is one of those tools that will make you wish you'd bought it years ago.

For occasional use, just get a regular wire stripper. It's foolproof. I have a similar cheap version of these and found them to be bulky/more trouble than they were worth. For more than occasional use, you should probably spend a bit more for higher quality

The Kleins are actually $23, but still worth it.

I got one. It's okay, not great. Wish I got the Klein instead.

Same. When my el-cheap-O one works, it is sweet! When it doesn't it's frustrating. I don't know if my cheap one can strip the outer jacket of Romex though, looks like I'm getting the klein as a stocking stuffer LOL

really not a lot of point to buying a cheap tool that's hard to use. If you really need one, spend more and buy a good one. Otherwise it's still mostly a waste of money for something you don't really need.

For around $20 I prefer the Klein Katapult type of automatic wire strippers. Way more precise. You can also easily replace the blades to accommodate different wire gauges.
