Plenty do. There's a guy on YouTube I see customizing them too. Pretty cool.

imo it usually boils down to 2 flavors:
  • Younger people that want to wear these as a style choice to lean into the nerdy 80s aesthetic.
  • Older people that can now buy the watches they saw as exorbitantly expensive in their youth for pennies on the dollar.
I definitely fall into the former category. It's also the reason why Casio's most popular, iconic watch, the F91W, is also objectively one of their worst even at the bargain bin price point.

I bought one just a few weeks ago, prior to going on a trip across multiple countries around the world. I brought along several other luxury watches, but this one stayed on my wrist the entire time (except for a wedding party). Extremely useful for tracking multiple time zones and being borderline indestructible makes it a great travel watch.

I bought a couple of these so that I could practice modding watches as a hobby and gift to kids. They are cheap enough, AND functional enough for such projects.

I haven't worn a watch regularly in years, but might be good to have one again. I do have a question. Using an analog clock gives me a progress meter for the hour I'm in. The little circle inset. That can be/is set to be show as an analog clock face?

you are right. i don't. almost everyone has a phone, which keeps time. Ya so I don't understand why people would want this, thus my question.

Well, looks like you don't work in a time-sensitive environment where every minute counts. I also don't have my phone glued to my hand at all times, nor it is allowed to keep your phone out when you are on the clock, in my line of work (but many still do it regardless of the rules though). This watch is not designed to distract you from what you are doing like pretty much everything "smart" nowadays.

There are other countless reasons as to why people wear a simple watch - allows you to keep track of time and date, with a battery you don't have worry about for 10 years, durable enough to withstand harsh conditions, and inexpensive enough to not worry about scratching or denting it, or bricking it due to a corrupt firmware/software update.

I still have a Casio g-shock watch from 1997, it works just fine.

Yes I have this watch. The inset circle at top is a representation of an analog clock with hour, minute and second hand. It will always display the time you have set for timezone 1.

You can have 4 time zones set. You can manually scroll through all 40+ cities but this takes a long time.

Couple of examples of why solely relying on a phone is not always possible (from my real world experience):
  • Going into a secure facility (like a prison or a clean room). You have to check your phone in. But it would still be nice to tell the time.
  • On a cruise ship, it operates on "ship time." The moment you get into a port, your phone will auto-set to the current local time. This could be different than ship time and you might miss your reboarding. Easiest is to just set and forget an analog dummy watch.
  • Not always optimal to carry a bulky phone when doing athletic activity, especially water sports. This watch will survive most reasonable water activity.
