I'd get the Fire TV. You can sideload apps on the Fire TV and add Kodi if you'd like. Then that opens your world up to a whole bunch of free TV and movies and what not.You can't sideload and add Kodi on a Roku TV... as far as I know.

Might want to read up on the side loading on FireTV/Firestick. Amazon is about to disable it. Cue the IT nerd comments- all you need to do is block the update on your router, yeah good luck with that long term. Supposedly Google will be doing the same within a year or so. We will be going back to the vanilla Android boxes with who knows what running on them or using a PC from the looks of it. The cinema app has been working great on my firesticks recently but that's all going away soon, got the warning message the other day.

Personally I'd pay the extra 30 for Roku over Fire TV. They are both 4k 60hz direct lit.

Looks pretty bad for a PC monitor. The Pioneer one for $30 more is better.

I got the warning too last week over CinemaHD on a TV running FireTV. Still OK with living room TV running Nvidia Shield.

This TV uses a BGR sub-pixel layout, which negatively affects the way text renders when using the TV as a PC monitor. You can read more about it here."

How's this for a monitor? ok for chroma 4:4:4?
I kinda doubt this TV can do chroma 4:4:4, but I just got one and have been using it as a monitor for the last few weeks, and it's awesome. Honestly I'm amazed at how good it looks for $100. The main thing was to change it to PC mode (before doing that, text looked like garbage) and change the input to "Last used" in the power settings.

Although I just purchased this TV, and I too have read the same articles regarding them disabling the sideload (developer) option and that functionality will no longer be supported on almost all Fire based video equipment TV's, Fire Sticks, and Cubes. I own all of these devices and can tell you that it will have an impact on several of the devices that I own. I still love the interface despite it's clunkiness sometimes.

I'd be surprised if even a cheap 4K TV like this couldn't do 4k@60Hz@4:4:4 from a PC.

But BGR subpixel is not ideal for text sharpness, especially if not using scaling. If using Windows I think there is a setting to tell it your screen uses BGR subpixel layout.

There's current much more expensive/mid tier tv models out there that don't have it. Caveat emptor if you plan on using a tv as a monitor, always confirm it first.
