Blade steel is 7Cr17MoV. Slightly lower carbon and much higher chromium content than the more common 8Cr13MoV blades you see here. This knife will be easier to sharpen (due to lower carbon) and have much better corrosion resistance (due to higher chromium). The trade off is edge retention, so you may need to sharpen it more often.

In terms of hardness/edge detention, a 7 is similar to 440A. An 8 is closer to 440B or AUS 8.

It's a nice knife, but the Ozark Trail D2 bugout clones are $10 regularly and are amazing knives for the price. I have them in every color and they make great gifts.

I bought a nice Gerber and then never removed it from the package because I grabbed a couple of Ozark Trail D2 knives immediately after. I feel shame...

Good luck!

Ah yes... the same of getting a better product for less money.

Personally, I just call it "adding to the collection". Do I need the OT D2 knives in every color? Nope.

Did I need another Kershaw oso sweet, just because it was $20 again? Nah.

Still bought them though!

For me the funny part is that I wasn't (and still arguably am not) a knife enthusiast. My EDC is a Victorinox small enough for my jeans 5th pocket.

And then I jumped from buying one campground knife to owning THREE.

Good luck!
